Online weekly shop??

TickleBug · 05/10/2011 21:46

Im considering doing my weekly shop on-line and having it delivered, due to the fact we dont have a car at the mo, and the delivery charge would be cheaper than a taxi. Thing is, I have no idea if its any good. I like to pick up things with a decent use by date-do you just get fobbed off with the shortest U B D? Do you always get everything you ordered or are things missed off?
Would be with Asda..... any feedback??

I've used Ocado for the past 5 years- I pay for a mid-week pass. You rarely get substitutions and I find it no more expensive than Sainsbury's. In fact, it works out much cheaper for some stuff- they do very good flash sales, usually 50% off. I can't remember the last time I bought meat at full price.

Highly recommend online shopping do not recommend Asda I've tried them all Ocardo are the best. Asda I had poor quality, poor substitutions and shockingly rude delivery men.

Have used Sainsbury's for 7years (as soon as my first due date was looming). Drivers have always been helpful - carrying shopping up to my flat and, now that we are in a house, taking it to the kitchen.
Late delivery may be two or three times in 7y and always received a call from the driver.
I pay about £60/year so I don't need to pay for delivery, which is extremely cost effective.

Online food shopping also saves me money as I am not tempted by offers. Saves time, too.
You can prob tell that I am a massive fan.

I have heard good things about Ocado but have not got round to trying it.

How long does it take for people to do their weekly shop online? I tried this the other day and it took me a while. almost as long as going round supermarket. I must be doing something wrong!

First few times it may take a while esp if it's not somewhere you shop in store so not familiar with their products - this the main reason I have not got round to trying ocado.

Once figured out, it only takes me 10min - on my phone on the train into work, watching tv etc

I use ocardo, as pp I also find the website a difficult to navigate but other than have been very impressed, not had any substitutes & always good use by dates, they usually have quite a few offers & has consistently worked out cheaper than Tesco, I have a years free delivery & got 30% off on my first order, when I signed up about six months ago, also the delivery drivers are very polite & helpful always bring the food through into the kitchen.

I use Sainsburys all the time. I have a delivery pass so it costs £40 a year for as many deliveries of < £40 As you like. They do 1 hour slots and you can get same day delivery if you order early morning for the same evening. They rarely substitute and if you're not happy with something refunds are same or next day. Use by dates are normally OK. ASDA gets very bad reviews on here

This is an old thread but I used Ocado for the first time last week and was impressed. Have ordered again this week. I found it took me longer the first time as I was trying to mentally go round Waitrose. I didn't bother doing that this week - I had a list of things we want. I also compared it with Morrison's, but found they didn't have some of the cheese I wanted. Overall cost on a like-for-like basis was very similar.

We use tesco and some times we get substitutions eg a large punnet of strawberries instead of a small punet. They always ‘up-brand’ on substitutions but charge you the same price as the product you choose. You can request substitution or any other product you decide you just don’t want anymore.

We use Tesco and have never had a problem! If something is close to the use by date you have the option to refuse it
And more often than not the driver refunds you and let's you keep it!
Only happened twice with some strawberries!

Honestly, it makes my life so much easier
I don't have to worry about battling the shops with a toddler! And I love adding stuff to my basket during the week!
Game changer in my opinion!

I have not had much luck with Asda. Dented tins, broken lids on yogurts that were going out of date within a day or so, someone else’s frozen goods. Twice had deliveries cancelled due to mild snow with no offer to reschedule for a few days later when snow was gone, just cancelled.

Morrison’s is fab. It comes from a warehouse so has more things available online than they offer in my local store. Can’t praise them enough.
