How to make a new home, homely. Help please'

Moving to a new ( its not actually a new building) home soon. What can I buy or do to make it feel homely?
Any ideas?

Once your stuffs in there your pictures are hung and youve cooked a few meals washed a few loads and put your scent and stamp on the place it will be home enjoy it.

Unpack ASAP, get some flowers to brighten it up until your pics/curtains are up, enjoy planning your decor

Can you get in there a few days before moving out your old house? That way you can stock the fridge, get the basic DIY type things done (shelves up, bathroom cabinets installed and hooks in the right places), and make sure there are towels and loo rolls in place, that kind of thing.

If not, it is good to pack a separate box to go with you in the car on the day with some fantastic quality basic groceries, chocolate and smellies, as well as a great scented candle or two, to give you a boost in the first few days.

My mantra is one room at once. Start with living areas. Don't stress, rooms evolve. Live in it for a while. And just cos you stick something in a place when you first move in doesn't mean that is the best place for it.

You have an excuse for the next 6 months........ no, I mean the next 4 years (!) for stuff being "out of sorts". Take it slowly and enjoy. We "camp out" at any of our new houses for a while.

Books, plants, lamps (lighting), rugs, friends, wine.
