How do you clean marks off your paintwork?

DP suggested bicarbonate of soda, which is what I have been using with some water. Not sure if I'm getting the ratios right as it seems to take ages plus a lot of elbow grease!

Are there any other ways?

What mark is it? It might be easier to just re-paint.

lostinindia · 08/08/2011 12:15

I used a wet wipe this morning.

AMumInScotland · 08/08/2011 12:44

Cif - but gently!

YouDoTheMath · 08/08/2011 13:57

Just general scuff marks - people brushing by walls with bags, finger marks on doors etc. Not worth repainting but the sort of thing that really bugs me once I notice it!

Will try a bit of gentle Cif action!

You can buy brilliant little sponge for paintwork-i know lakeland sell them and then so do most cheapo cleaning places now. I just cant remember what they are called. I will go and have a look

cjbartlett · 08/08/2011 15:19

Sugar soap or baby wipes

They dont seem to advertise them now for paintwork but i am sure this is the same stuff

valiumredhead · 08/08/2011 15:36

Wet wipes or magic erasers.

BettyBathroom · 08/08/2011 15:37

Cif - it's a wonder cream.

krisskross · 08/08/2011 19:52

they also sell those blocks in robert dyas- magic eraser- v good for marks on paint work but not great for painted lining paper.

in fact- can someone tell me how to get smeary toddler finger prints off painted lining paper on walls?

stepmad · 08/08/2011 21:09

Pound shop do them as well i cut them into fours

Cutiecat · 10/08/2011 15:54

Toddler finger prints tend to come off with warm soapy water. It really depends on your paint though.

babycham42 · 10/08/2011 16:12

Cif is brilliant but then I polish up with some Pledge as it leaves a smeary finish (this is on doors etc.) Sometimes on painted walls I"ll use a wrung out cloth with washing up liquid and warm water but you must be careful. I sometimes think its just as easy to paint over in certain circumstances (ie. not going to leave a "tidemark")
