HELP!! Spindly Spiders in Kitchen Cupboard!

Shoppingveggie · 04/08/2011 14:34

I noticed today a spindly spider in a saucepan went I went to cook lunch. I have now got a torch and looked in the cupboard (its one that is at a right angle with another cupboard so difficult to get to) only to find lots of spiders, webs and I guess spider droppings Blush Can't remember the last time I cleared out this cupboard Blush.

I am in the middle of taking everything out and washing it up, after I have hoovered off spiders (both dead and alive). But I am worried about how I could keep these at bay - has anyone else had the same problem, or know of a product I can use?

Thanks

Might you have food moths or flour weevils? That many spiders must be eating something - if you can sort out their food source they won't come back.

It's my saucepan cupboard, no food in there. Flour is kept in tuppaware opposite side of the kitchen. But you're right - what could they be eating??

Also found one in the drawer that shares that cupboard space, and that's my tea towel drawer .....

If it's the ones with really long legs and little bodies, they are daddy long legs spiders and can go for ages without eating anything- and they also eat each other :) If they return, you keep sweeping their webs away they'll get the message.

Yes "Peeriebear", that's the ones - all spindly and daddy long legs looking - quite hard to see they are so thin.

I think I am going to use this as an ideal time to de-clutter that cupboard!

We have 3 of these type of spiders in our kitchen and a few in the bathroom behind the sink. In the kitchen there is one behind the bin, one on the ceiling and one in the cupboard. If they keep themselves to themselves then I might just leave them alone. but I don't like spiders!

Thanks for the replies. I have de-cluttered the cupboard, hoovered, wiped and bleached the insides. Washed everything that's gone back in, so now its fingers crossed!

How did this go? Realising this is an old thread however - same problem for me!! Same type of cupboard and everything!!! :)

I swear by "Raid" spray in the red can-kills them more or less straight away depending on size + makes the area uninhabitable for several weeks if left on the surface.

But the spindly ones eat the big hamster size ones, I let them stay.

The cats useless at hunting the big ones.
