How DOES one iron a double duvet cover?

I'm a slattern, despite my grandma's best efforts. I am my mother's daughter.

I rarely iron, unless absolutely necessary.

I recently bought a posh duvet cover, which requires ironing. I fold it in half and spray starch the hell out of it. Results are ok...

Am I missing a top secret?

this one doesn't. It gets washed and hung out to dry on the line, then folded carefully and bunged in the cupboard.

Have you gone and bought 500 thread pi Egyptian Cotton or something mad?

I had a tax rebate and wanted summat nice. Nicer than IKEA nice. Didn't anticipate the fucking ironing of it, though!

i splashed out a couple of years ago and bought a duvet set from the 'kylie' raneg at (i think) Debenhams.

it has fucking sequins!!

not only is it a nightmare to iron but teh sequins on teh pillow scratch teh fuck out of my hand when i sleep.

I dont iron duvet covers, wash dry and fold.

also I turn the sequence side down when sleeping and turn back whenI rarely make the bed. this also masks the hair dye on the pillow problem.

Fold it into thirds, ironing the middle third last.

Only done here on high days and holidays, but it worked!

I've never ironed a duvet cover in my life...don't let my mum hear that she irons everything including socks and tea towels!

One doesn't. One shakes it, folds it and keeps the bedroom dimly lit. Voila, hours of your life back to do interesting things.

As a girl, my grandma tried to teach me the ironing.

It was going ok until I asked her why her knickers were so big.

Take out of tumbledrier straight away and fold.

I don't normally iron duvets but if desperate..... put the cover on the duvet on the bed, plug iron in to nearest plug ( extension lead may be required!) and iron whilst it is on the bed!

fold in half, top to top, pattern side up- spray a little starch - iron both sides

Sit down and have a small glass of something nice

It's against the law to iron any bedding.

service wash/iron at launderette is the answer I have found, together with a lower maintenance spare duvet cover. Otherwise, don't iron it.

Tumble dry it, shake it, fold it and put it away or straight back onto the bed while warm. Ironing is too good for the buggers!

i don't iron the cover, but if its very creased after drying (like if its dryed on the airer not on the line) I hang it over the shower rail and steam it a bit. Works for me

I only buy reallly good quality cotton bedding (usually in sales) and they iron much better than cheap low thread count ones.

It does help if you don't have the spin cycle too high and line dry. Fold when you take it off the line and iron as soon as possible. The ironing is not just about looks it's that heavenly feel of a freshly laundered good quality bedset. sheer bliss.

scared; I love your style of ironing. Something good on the TV and a nice glass of wine sounds great to me! and Katie I too have been known to iron bedding on the bed.

And Ladies! one last tip: Invest in an ironing generator It does the work in half the time, you can even iron clothes on the hanger if needed and for conventional ironing make sure there is enough padding on the ironing board Life's too short to waste time with crappy ironing equipment

Or...low spin, firm shake when putting on the line, make sure its stretched out fully across the line, when dry fold neatly.
breezy weather is ideal for getting creases out of our bedding.

i do that for everything and only need to quick iron work clothes.

I iron them by folding in half and iron on one side , turn over and do the other side.- This works even with a king size.

Agree that line drying is best and iron as soon as possible.
recently bought a new iron where the steam actually works and found it's much quicker.

Don't bother ironing sheets and all my bedding is 100% egytian cotton.

I fold it in half and iron both sides that way too, plus I drip dry them in the summer. I iron it on a towel over the breakfast bar.

I hated ironing till I got my extra wide ironing board and pressurised (sp?) steam generator iron.

I can't believe so many people don't iron them I was made to feel a right slattern when I first met dh because I didn't do it.
