Well, I de smelled mine!! It actually happened by accident. The little drawer was very yucky so I decided to take out the conditioner part and wash it and clean the main part with a tissue. Never realised the whole drawer came out until I pulled it too hard and it fell on the floor! OMG. The place where the drawer lives was black! Blush I managed to cleane 90% of it and washed the whole drawer and parts in the sink with fairy liquid and way hey, no more nasty smelling washing machine!

I think my problem lies further back unfortunately. I've de-gunked the drawer (and yes it was baaaaaad when I took it out - am a bit Hmm about clean the clothes can have actually been) but the smell is still there.

I think I need something that'll blast the black foulness from all the pipes without actually melting the machine in the process.

That Dr who acid from last week's show should shift it Grin.

I really do think ours has imprived a lot since we stopped using liquid instead of powder. Now I've gone back to non-bio powder, it's fine.

Oh and I use Ecover softener every other wash so as not to clog machine too much - and use less than stated - ecover fragrance apparently interfere with butterfly breeding, as it does with some other brands.

I think liquid is the problem too vintage. I use Ariel Excel Gel and it's so easy to squeeze a bit into the dispenser (I always manage to lose the caps) but I don't think it dissolves that well, just coats the pipes with a sort of laboratory mould-growing compound.

especially if it's bio and not non-bio suzi. Those live enzymes must have something to do with it I reckon.

suzikettles · 26/05/2011 13:50

But how will I get my washing clean without enzymes?!?! [brainwashed by Proctor & Gamble]

vintageteacups · 26/05/2011 13:52

well - i've been using non-bio since I left home and my mum has only ever used non-bio - you'll be fine - give it a go.

Our washing machine repair man recommended putting on an empty machine at its highest heat setting with a biological powder once a month.

I use buav approved, non bio for our laundry but keep a little box of bio for the job. It doesn't make me feel good but neither does rewashing things because they have black marks on them from the washing machine.

He also said you need far less powder than the packaging recommends.
