I have tried everything to get it out -

Hot wash
Ariel Stain Remover
Vanish
Bio liquid applied direct to stain
Stain Devils (General one as couldn't find one for sauces)

They are brand new leggings and top. I know I shouldn't buy an 18 month old white clothes but please help me get these stains out.

Oh dear, if you've tried all those then I'm not sure what else to suggest other than potentially dying them another colour?

FessaEst · 14/05/2011 16:38

Try leaving it out in the direct sun, might help.

GoingLoopyLou · 14/05/2011 16:39

Hmmmmm am beginning to think the same but thought Mumsnet always had the answer so I'd give it a go!

Wonder what bleach does? I've never bleached anything.

I'd be careful about bleaching, they might go yellow.

highriggs · 14/05/2011 16:50

maybe try soda crystals,
pre soak 150 grams soda dissolved in 500 ml hot water

Soda crystals are dead cheap and are also great for unblocking bath drains

GoingLoopyLou · 14/05/2011 19:21

Have just been and bought some soda crystals so will try that. Thank you!

i was dubious about the sunshine, but it really does work!

wet clothes out in full sunlight, on a line.....pasta sauce all gone!

GoingLoopyLou · 14/05/2011 19:26

That link is absolutely brilliant highriggs! Have just bought my very first bag and can see it being first of many.

Will try that tomorrow AuntieMonica, thanks.

I have a 22 month old girl and a similar penchant for white leggings/jeans for her! I always soak them for a bit in milton sterlising fluid before I was them - it's weaker than bleach but seems to do the trick. Worth a try if you've got some hanging around.

schroeder · 14/05/2011 22:18

Next time (I know sorry Hmm) wash them in cold water and washing up liquid by hand as soon as you notice, then machine wash as usual. This method has never failed me yet.

Leave 'em on the line for a week as last ditch attempt

bubbles4 · 14/05/2011 22:47

Another vote for sunlight, best if you can lie item in direct sunlight,on a patio table or something rather than hung over the washing line.I tried it and was amazed when the stain had completely gone.

mousymouse · 15/05/2011 08:13

Bio powder + soda cristals get most stains out. No sunshine here, well no garden.
I soak the clothes over night in bio powder/water and then put a little (one washing powder scoop) soda crystals in the drum of the mashine.

onadietcokebreak · 15/05/2011 08:15

Agree with sunlight. I find even dull light does the trick!

greenlime · 15/05/2011 08:40

You need to be careful bleaching. If you are just bleaching something that is totally white with no logo etc, then it should be OK.

But YABvU to buy white clothing!! It can be hard though because lots of girls clothes are white/pale and I always find that they cannot possibly last as long as something that is navy or red etc. I have had to put lots of DD's clothes in the fabric recycling whilst they still fit her because of the pale colours getting ruined. I have never ever had to do this with an item of DS's clothing and he is 5.

greenlime · 15/05/2011 08:41

Oh and I would just add that my mum says that a hot wash can set a stain so next time, I wouldn't do that.

Deflatedballoonbelly · 15/05/2011 08:59

Napisan

Glad sunshine worked! (It usually takes a few hours ... a few days depending where you live). I've also had a lot of success with Sonett oxgall soap (rubbed in wet, soaked for a few hours, then scrubbed).

My girls wear a lot of white and pale pink and the key is to lift the stains immediately.

GoingLoopyLou · 18/05/2011 15:59

I had to report back and tell you that...... the sunshine worked!

I tried yet more stain remover and then soda crystals with no joy. So put the items in the sun for about 24 hours and the stains have gone!

I'm astonished but sooooooo pleased!

Thank you!
