Ways of disguising the brown compost box in the kitchen

It is so ugly and now the good weather is here (well, almost) it's attracting insects. I was thinking of placing it inside one of those vintage enamel bread bins but they're so high, it will be very cumbersome to open the lid of the plastic brown compost box once inside the bread bin.

So I was wondering, what was of disguising it and keeping insects away have you found successful?

i use compostable bags and keep the lid closed, as well as emptying it regularly (which i'm sure you do anyway) not sure why you're having a problem with insects sorry Smile

Yes I also use the green compostable bags, empty it at least daily, but when it's hot there's always a fly or two coming out as soon as I lift the lid. Also would like to hide the basket, it's just ugly.

Fairy lights Grin

sorry perhaps not

I don't know. I gave up doing compost for this reason. We get enough flies as it is. It's horrid isn't it.

Rinse it out with bleach each week, then dry with kitchen roll and put a compostable liner bag in.

I have this compost caddy from Lakeland. It has replaceable filters in the lid, but we've had it ~5years & haven't changed them yet.

We don't have a problem with insects either & it can go several days between being emptied! Our kitchen is quite cool though, is your caddy kept in direct sunlight?

My wormery gets flies in it when it gets too wet could that be the problem? What are you putting in it?
