Papery feeling duvet cover

DDs Peppa Pig duvet cover doesn't feel very nice, I've washed it twice (with fabric conditioner), line dried it & tumble dried it, but it still doesn't feel soft & every morning I have to rearrange the duvet inside it as it seems to slide down to the bottom of the cover!?

I checked the label & it's 100% polyester, is this why? Or is there anything I can do to make it softer?

I had a duvet cover like that once. It didnt feel like they usually feel.

The weave was also very close and the threads very fine. I put loads of softener in the wash and gave it a couple of good long washs but it made no difference.

I took it to the charity shop in the end as it never felt right.

A suggestion:
Is it worth buying a plain duvet and sewing a large piece of the Peppa Pig on to the front of it?

Imnotaslimjim · 10/05/2011 18:20

My DD has one of those and I hate it, but she is PP mad so its on more often that its off :( Got no suggestions on how to deal with it though as I have a daily fight with it!

that peppa pig duvet is crap, the hello kitty one not much better, why they make kids duvets like that is beyond me

conserve - that's a great idea, but I don't have a sewing machine, so don't think I'm going to be able to do it!

I'm going to try to hide the duvet cover at the back of the cupboard & hope she forgets about it (yeah, right)

do you all think that it's because it's 100% polyester? Her other duvet covers are 50% polyester, 50% cotton & they are fine, so perhaps I just need to read the label in the future!

yes its probably the fibre content. Cotton is a lot softer and pliable. Probably best to have a feel of the fabrics first if you can .

Send the cover to me - I could make take one side off the back and replace it with poly cotton fabric. Be a shame for your DD not to enjoy it.
Message me if you'd like.

Ahh, that's very kind of you conserve, but luckily she also loves her other duvet covers (WTP & pink spots) so I don't think she'll miss Peppa too badly (fingers crossed!)

Or you could buy a plain pink cotton or polycotton duvet cover, cut out the Peppa motifs and applique them to the new cover. 100% polyester bedding must be the work of the Devil!

Polyester bedding is just vile. I once had a set that was terry-kind-of polyester. Had it on for one night, we sweated like pigs (do they sweat?) and our hair was electric.
