Oven won't turn on

I'm in rented accommodation in France so would quite like to not try and call out electrician or anything if I can avoid it.

It's a Faure electric oven (not sure what model, it doesn't seem to say anywhere) and overnight it has stopped working. I used it about 24 hours ago and it was fine, woke up today and nothing. The clock display on the front is working, and the fuses are all normal.

I'm thinking maybe it's the thermostat? I already had to fork out 900euros for a new front door lock and it was a total PITA trying to get the money back out of my landlady.... I've tried leaving it to sulk then going back to it, but it hasn't made any difference and just won't be reasoned with.

Oh, and it has a self cleaning function and goes up to 270C, neither of which I have ever done, so it shouldn't have just been that it overheated because I've never had it on maximum heat, iyswim.

On another note, if I get it working, how do I use the self clean thing. There is no instruction manual in the flat and I'm a bit scared of it...

Has there been an interruption to the power supply? Mine won't work until the clock has been reset after a power cut.

Is there an automatic timer been accidentally set to start the oven at a certain time? That will stop most cookers from switching on til it's reset.

(have no knowledge of Faure cookers btw, just something that happened to us once)

Not that I know of. Not sure how to reset the clock either (the time hasn't been right all year).

Although I tried turning off the electricity supply and then turning it back on again and the clock display hadn't changed, so you may be onto something there.

[disclaimer] I spilled a mug of tea everywhere last week and some went in the oven. I thought I cleaned it all up, and it's been working since then, but maybe something got wet?

No, Paschaelina, no automatic timer that I know of

Oooh ok, I have managed to reset the clock and still nothing, but according to one website the child safety feature may be activated. I did not know ovens have child safety features...

Delighted to report to all that the child safety feature is so effective I cannot work out how to deactivate it. Will have a poke about

Thank you for your help!

Panic over, crisis resolved. Croissants for breakfast again Grin.

It was the child safety lock. Pressed different button combinations and it beeped and the flashing light went away and now it works.

Feeling very independent and smug (apart from your support, obviously).

Yum croissants Grin

Child safety lock obviously a bit too good...
