Are they still hygienic to use? Also, when they are clean they still have sort of grease marks on them - any ideas how to get them off or is it a case of elbow grease?

I have these and have been ignoring it. If I have to think about it, it must mean they are unhygienic but really don't want to chuck them all away.

I have been quite ruthless when clearing out my plastic boxes drawer. I have put the dishwasher on for the second time to wash my baking stuff I have just used and it will be on again at least twice more to clean all the pots etc that weren't looking hygienic. Feels like I am nesting Grin.

well..seeing as they are going to go in an over at well over 100 degrees the hygiene thing wouldnt be my worry..I'd be more concerned that they could break..or do you mean just cracks in the glaze?

TheOriginalFAB · 04/05/2011 18:24

Yes, they are cracks rather than breaks.

I had a lovely Emma Bridgewater dish that had a crack in it just like you are describing. It seemed to have a grease mark around the crack. I continued using it until I made a lasagna in it and it cracked in the oven. Lasagna EVERYWHERE and supper ruined after all that work.

I say chuck them out. Though I did take it to the Bridgewater shop and they replaced it as they are lovely.

I hadn't thought of that!

I must admit I am desperate for some nice dishes rather than the mish mash of stuff I have from supermarkets.

Any recommendations? No EB near me though.
