Today we saw a huge rat in our garden, for the first time (we've been here 5 years). It's enclosed on all sides so not sure how it got in, and when hubby 'chased' it off, it was very slow and in the end hubby had to lift it up with a shovel to get rid; it wasn't aggressive or jumpy (although he said it seemed terrified) as I would have expected.
I'm planning to call the council after the bank hol, but hoped someone else had this experience and can reassure me it's a one-off! I'm very phobic about rats so we purposely don't leave food around for birds etc for this reason, but with a 4 year old and a 2 year old they are bound to leave crumbs when walking around with a biscuit/crisps.
Is it inevitable that there are more/will be more, and will they try to get in the house? I'm scared to go in the garden or let the boys play, but we can't avoid it all summer.
Thanks
