Welcome to the May edition of the Fledgling Flyers' thread. Thank you to Nettie for her splendid leadership of last month's thread.

If you're living in CHAOS (Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome), this is the thread for you! We follow the tips on the FlyLady website in an attempt to restore order to our homes, but advise against signing up for the e-mails; all the information you need is on this thread.

Each day, I'll be posting the links that will enable you to do any of the following:

  • start or repeat baby steps
  • repeat babysteps and do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

More information about the babysteps is here.

So please join us - there's always plenty of chat, tea, cake, encouragement and the occasional Wine to help us on our way!

Thanks for all the birthday wishes everyone :) Had a very nice day - the boys let me sleep until 6.45 - luxury! DH did the nursery run, I did manage a super fast house bleugh as there's no other time for it this week. Had a lovely lunch out, a bit of shopping, a friend popped over, and been zumbaing! Now relaxing with a spot of whisky before the holiday frenzy begins. Grin

PA - no, in-laws don't live on the IOW. In fact step-FIL has never been there before Shock. We're staying in the same place we visited a couple of years ago, but a bigger property to fit all the on tap babysitters in Wink. Would you recommenf either of the dinosaur museums for a 4 year old boy with a short attention span?!

Waves a bucket and spade. See you in a week!

CheerfulYank · 11/05/2011 21:57

Took the dog for a walk and went to work.

ApuskiDusky · 11/05/2011 22:13

Evening! Thanks for the round-up Linzer (helps enormously with my skim reading!).

Today mostly went to plan - the insurance fella assured me he could get the stain out, then after an hour of stinking my house out with cleaning chemicals and keeping the baby awake with noisy machinery, finally admitted defeat, so we are having a new stairs and hallway carpet. I'm going to be a naggy nightmare with DS1 (and probably DH as well!) once it's been laid in an attempt to keep it clean! At least DS2 isn't refluxy any more.

E-cloths are good aren't they?!

feetheart · 11/05/2011 22:44

TWO dinosaur museums ShockShock
DC would faint with happiness at the thought.
Think IoW trip may have to be scheduled in at some point - we can bring our own cake PA :o
Enjoy your holiday Blue

Yay for new carpet Apusky

Cheerful - 5.30am is an ungodly hour although usually very quiet and great for getting work done. I see it more often than I would like due to a slightly bonkers body clock Hmm

Swan/ Toffee - are we triplets maybe? Actually, not possible, I'm older than the pair of you :o

Linzer - thanks for great round-up, hope you are in bed now.

Did LOTS of ironing tonight but still have the dregs left - ie 2 items that are really fiddly and an enormous duvet cover that girl cat wanted to fight! Had lost the will by then so gave up. It can wait till Sunday night which is usual ironing night (not Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday as it has been this week Shock)

Want to be in bed by 11am so night night all

feetheart · 11/05/2011 22:45

PM - dozy mare Confused

missjulie · 12/05/2011 00:55

Thanks for the good wishes ladies! Parents, and other bodies are being roped into house move, hopefully! Only moving 7 miles up the road, so yes, still in The Highlands.
Have had such a busy day today that haven't managed to get online!
Done list Tidied house, cleaned bathroom, cleaned kitchen, folded and put away 3 baskets of clean washing, gutted out DD's room, and re-vamped cotbed after total destruction x 4 last night!!!! (Hope tonight goes better!) Sorted re-cycling. Watered plants outside. Hoovered. Vaccuum packed 6 bags of clothes for house move. Sorted out all of DD's birthday prezzies for puting away - took ages! (Had 4 hours of DD free time today, thanks to a neighbour!) Showered, finally! Entertained a friend. Oh, and nearly forgot, took apart u-bend under sink etc to see if blockage, but washing machine still not draining properly! Have tried everything i can think of - spins/new washes/95 degree wash/u bend cleaning......it doesn't have a filter to empty. What else can i try before i have to phone someone? The baby clothes are piling up and need washed!!!!
Am chuffed with my productive day, considering the way i have been of late!
Got my counselling session in the morning, so hope it goes well, not been for 2 weeks.
Hope to catch you all tomorrow. x

LinzerTorte · 12/05/2011 04:49

Morning all,

Today?s babystep is to delete all FlyLady?s e-mails (although hopefully you?ll have taken the advice on this and earlier threads and not subscribed to them in the first place). I would change this babystep to unsubscribing from her e-mails completely.

The mission today is to wipe down all the small appliances and gadgets in your kitchen.

Thursday is Errand Day ? now that our fridges are clean and decluttered , today is the perfect day to go grocery shopping. Don?t forget those candles!

BES I have PM-ed you so that I dont bore everyone hijack the thread! Grin

Good morning ladies Smile

Wooooohoooooo!! Day off today!!! First day off without the DCs being around for about 6 weeks! Last evening at tea time DD2 asked what I was going to do with my day. I embarrassingly replied by singing Bruna Mars "Today I dont feel like doing anything......" Apparently I am way too old to sing songs with rude words in!! Blush DCs all looked like this Shock Shock Shock Shock

So, my day of doing absolutely nothing Hmm looks like this:
Ironing
Washing
Go to Staples for work supplies
Small shop at Lidl
Sort out winter clothes and put them away for the summer
Hoover bedrooms
Put together end-of-year files for work
Make toad in the hole for 9! Shock
Bake a heart shaped cake for a soppy meal with DH tonight (decorated with cream and strawberries, just because I feel like be soppy! Wink )
Square cake for the DCs
Bake biscuits for group of teenagers coming here for meeting tonight
Clear out and hoover back lounge for the meeting
Watch the apprentice from the other evening on i-player
Clean out fridge, cos I never managed to get round to it on Tuesday! Blush

Ok, so not quite doing nothing, but hopefully I will get half an hour to sit and relax and read my book.

Massive waves to everyone.
I, too am easily please ApuskiDusky and love those cloths!!
Feetheart what is the PM about??? Also you would be very welcome here any time!!

LinzerTorte · 12/05/2011 07:51

Feeling slightly more awake this morning, although only just - I had far too late a night last night, and really needn't have stayed up tidying as the cleaner still isn't here (she's just rung to say she won't be here until 9 am). It was the usual early-morning rush here; DD1 was in a panic because she couldn't find a book she needed for today - she insisted that DD2's friend must have taken it home yesterday so I had to phone her mum up, but she hadn't. After a wasted 10 minutes searching for it, DD1 finally found the book in her pencil case on the way to school.

feetheart I'm at my most productive in the early morning, as long as I can avoid MN. I'd been doing so well up until now...

PA That sounds like a very busy day off! Hope you do manage to fit in some time to read - it's another nice sunny day here, so I'm having to force myself not to go outside with my book. Not until I've done at least a modicum of flying, anyway. (Btw feetheart was referring to the fact that she'd written 11 am rather than 11 pm.)

swanriver · 12/05/2011 09:28

Nice morning, Dh has been sitting next to piano encouraging everyone to do their music practice. What's happened? Shock I think he was galvanised into action by dd's glamorous violin teacher.
Last night I completely shut down, refused to talk to anyone and went to bed at 9.30, and I think Dh is a bit chastened this morning. He's told me he is having business lunches four days in a row (not w/e obviously) and doesn't need supper for a while.

Scatty that's what my cousin had - it was in relation to his parents height they were concerned...and he definitely didn't shoot up at usual time, but in the end he was average height (and fantastically laid back confident and successful trumpeter!)

todaylookslike
piano practice allmorning
go to SIL at 11.30
back for piano lesson 2.30
pickup children....and not sure what....feel generally clueless today

swanriver · 12/05/2011 09:34

PA LOL
Toffee glad it went well
MsJ I'm surprised if there isn't a bit of it somewhere you can unscrew at the bottom to check for coins etc...have you looked in instruction manual?
You sound like you are doing a fantastic job with the moving - grr to taking apart cots...

LadyInPink · 12/05/2011 09:55

Toffee i suffer from cold sores at times too (always have since a child) but touch wood not had one in a while. i find the cream does work but only if you zap it straight away so i have a tube everywhere but i will bear in mind about the tablets (new concept to me too) I'm thankful your DS2 won't have a visable scar either - DD has one just by her left eye, it's rather endearing actually and doesn't bother her; most of her friends have CP scars.

Linzer jealous of your cleaner coming Envy I used to have a cleaner when DD was tiny but i found I always went after her doing it my way so was a waste of time but she did the bits i hated so it was worth it.

Glad you had a lovely Birthday Blue Smile Sounded like a lovely day!

Now to all of you yammering about height, i happen to be 5" 2 and am very happy with being so. Don't think i grew much past 13 tbh but it's never hindered me. My brothers tower over me at 6" and my DH too but it doesn't bother me. This thread seems to have a lot of tall ladies on it - anyone nearer my height here?

My to do list is finish yesterdays cleaning tasks and do washing. My sister is coming over today so we are having lunch and going for a walk (it's sunny YEY) in a bid to start exercising more (got to lose 1/2 stone)

See you all later Smile

pushmepullyou · 12/05/2011 09:59

Morning all

Today I will be mostly washing!

And putting away!

Epic baby poo explosion has given me about three extra loads of washing and I was already a bit behind.

Oh well, onwards and upwards Wink

droitwichmummy · 12/05/2011 10:06

Lady I'm 5'6" if that helpsSmile

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 12/05/2011 10:10

5'5" here, I'm short for my weight as Bart Simpson said. DH is 5'2" and the Dcs are both around 25 centile for height so we are a short family.

LadyInPink · 12/05/2011 10:14

Well you are both taller than me but i'm closer in height to you than say swan and feet Grin - i'm routing for a mnetter to say she's 5" 1 or smaller now!

LinzerTorte · 12/05/2011 10:20

Lady I am 5'5" and fed up with my family telling me that I'm short (my mum comes from quite a tall family, with all the men - my brother included - being over 6 foot), no matter how often I try to convince them that I'm average height!

I'm also trying to get us all walking more, although we didn't have time to walk to school this morning thanks to DD1 mislaying her book. I'm very unfit (although am feeling much more positive since I started Couch to 5k) and the DC have got quite lazy about walking thanks to being driven everywhere (although the DDs do walk part of the way to and from school).

My bike has been pronounced dead so I'll have to go bike shopping at the weekend. There's 20% off everything at the sports shop until Saturday so I'm hoping to find one there; it's just a shame I couldn't have waited a couple of weeks to buy my running shoes, as someone (sorry, can't remember who) suggested. If only I hadn't ruthlessly decluttered my old school trainers.

OP posts:
WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 12/05/2011 13:57

Linzer I'm short in my own family, my mum, dad and brother are all a good bit taller than me, most people out grow their mothers, but not me.

LinzerTorte · 12/05/2011 15:15

WhoKnows I've heard that sons always end up being taller than their mothers, which I'm sure can't always be the case - although it is in our family (my mum is 5'8" and my brother over 6'). Atm I can't imagine DS being taller than me!

OP posts:
missjulie · 12/05/2011 16:00

Hi all. Not having a great day today. Couldn't sleep at all last night, and didn't get to sleep til 7.30am!! Grr! Afraid am having a pj day today, and had to cancel my counsellor.
No bit on washing machine to take apart as a filter etc. i googled the manual online. Just phoned a guy to come and look at it tomorrow, which is great, cos, as you will appreciate the baby washing is mounting up!!!! Must have a good 3 loads waiting to be washed! (and i am not doing it by hand!)
So, the cotbed wasn't trashed last night! Yippppppee!!!
Am off to attempt to tidy the kitchen, and make myself a well needed coffee!

scattyspice · 12/05/2011 18:08

Poor you julie hope you got some rest in the end.

I am 5'4'' (which is average height for a woman according to growth clinic)but considered tall for my family (mum is 4'11). I grew up thinking I was giant. recently had an interesting conversation with a friend at work, I was convinced that I was taller than her, in fact I'm a lot shorter. Having been told I was tall, I think of myself as tall Hmm. DD told the Dr that she was not the smallest in the class (she is by miles), I honestly don't think she considers herself small Smile.

Today:
school/work - done
ds and friend to party (need present and card) -done
laundry - done
possibly dust Hmm
shopping list for tomorrow - done
clean out fridge - done

Right best go get DS from this party.
