Should I buy a Kitchen Aid?

My last kitchen multi-purpose machine with a zillion gadgets has been consigned to the bin in despair (all the bits broke/went blunt though the motor was still going strong).

I want something strong, beautiful and long-lasting. Should this be a Kitchen Aid? If so, what model/attachments do I need? Any other recommendations?

i have one. not super impressed tbh. teh bowl sticks in the holder, a knob broke off (cosmetic but still).

what do you use it for? a good food processer often is better value and more useful.

I wasnt impressed with mine either - it wobbled. But then I got the bigger one ( where the bowl is lifted up) and I have been much happier with thar.

PfftTheMagicDragon · 28/04/2011 13:28

I have had mine for 2 years now and it is still as good as new.

I would recommend getting the one with the bigger bowl and also get a lid/cover/pourer thing for it - I have the small bowl with no lid and have to wrap a tea towel round i when I mix icing sugar.

DuplicitousBitch · 28/04/2011 13:30

yes mine is the smaller one but still small should not mean shit quality

PfftTheMagicDragon · 28/04/2011 13:32

Mine is the small one and the quality isn't shit

Malvapoeding · 28/04/2011 13:35

YES!!

Mine came with a metal bowl, paddle, whisk and dough hook. When we bought our there was a promotion running so we got a free glass bowl and lid too.

If you are after more of a food processor than a mixer then a magimix is fantastic.

Bonsoir · 28/04/2011 13:39

OK, so if I go for the Kitchen Aid it's going to be the big bowl version. Good to know.

Any particular Magimix?

I have this one and it is fantastic, exactly the same one as I have used in professional kitchens.

A friend speaks adoringly of her Bimby. Apparently it does everything in the kitchen apart from stack the dishwasher.

Ealingkate · 28/04/2011 13:49

The Bimby is £800 though!

Ealingkate · 28/04/2011 13:50

There is one on ebay here

Bonsoir · 28/04/2011 13:52

Thanks Malvapoeding - I can get that exact same Magimix online at Darty, delivered to my door... always a selling point!

You might want to check out Kenwoods which are just as nice and effective for nearly half the price:

E.g. Kitchenaid Artisan

tinyurl.com/6kznn5b £409

Versus

Kenwood K Mix

tinyurl.com/64c2uum £255

Or

Kenwood Patisierre (£150) which I have and it's great.

Also, for a lot of things, a hand held electric mixer will suffice. Also I've found my Braun Multiquick set a lot more use than the full on food processor I used to have.

ChateauRouge · 28/04/2011 14:59

Oh, Darty!
Takes me back...

Bonsoir · 28/04/2011 14:59

LOL at reminiscing about Darty Smile
