I have been looking at this type of thing but would prefer to pay alot less.

I have bought cheap wardrobes before and would prefer something solid that will last for years. Any ideas?? Smile

I'm off out now, but will be back on to check later...

Get to your local auction house where you'll pick up one of these for around £100. You'll probably need to sand/paint it, but that's quite a fun project in itself!

have you checked ebay too?

Check out your local furniture scheme and also charity shops that accept furniture.

Google "antique auction " and see what comes up. The thing to do is go along a few times to get an idea for what prices are being paid. Originals or unscathed will go for a fortune, but if you're happy to put a bit of elbow grease in, you should be able to pick up repro/Edwardian/Victorian wardrobes for around £100. Bear in mind too that the smaller pieces often go for more money since not everyone has a big house to put Victorian furniture in!

My top tip is to watch the first time and then leave a bid the second time - don't get caught up in the auction and always have a ceiling price! You'll need to add on about 20% commission for the auction house too, so factor that into your budget.
