I lost count of the number of people who viewed my previous flat and objected to the kitchen which was about 10 years old but plain white and with solid doors not laminated or whatever. Just a plain speckly grey worktop too, stainless steel sink, what's not to love? Even the estate agents started to get snitty, saying buyers expected a certain standard. But it was clean and it worked.
Anyhow, I sold eventually and moved into my new flat which has a recently fitted shaker style kitchen, presumably of the standard that people expect. The opening sides of the cupboards either side of the oven are touching it if you see what I mean. Within 6 weeks of having moved in and using the oven most days, the plasticky laminate stuff with which the doors are made has melted and buckled and come away from the MDF underneath!
This is exactly what I expected from style over substance, but apart from removing the doors and drawer fronts either side of the cooker to prevent further damage, what's the cure? Not fit for purpose IMO!
