Should I be using colour care washing powder for my coloured wash

I don't use it as can't be bothered to have 2 different washing powders, however I am noticing some of my clothes fading. So does the colour stuff make any difference or is it just a gimmick?

It doesn't contain bleach, whereas normal powder does. So it might do.

I have 4 different washing powders Blush - Bio, Bio 2-in-1, Bio colour, and handwash. And various sample sachets of non bio for the few times I need to use that. I am sad and like matching the scent to a complementary fabric softener.

Since I started using Ecover and Tesco's own Eco wash stuff I haven't noticed any difference. I don't know what the bleach content is (too lazy to get up and look) but as they don't do a colour option I assume it's nil or not much. I haven't noticed any loss of colour anyway.

I use colour powder for colours and non-bio for whites and lights. Seems to work although, I wouldn't swear to a huge difference. DS's black school jumpers fade badly (I'm told) so I started using the colour powder when he started there.

According to this it makes sense. Smile (I love that website) Blush

Have just read the link and it says that liquid detergent doesn't contain bleach - well I use a liquid so does that mean I am ok? Confused
Think I will check what the label says........

Maybe, but watch out if you use liquid for every wash, it can cause problems with smells and slime.

sillytart · 18/04/2011 23:10

label doesn't mention bleach, so I think I will be ok. If I remember I might check the labels at the shop for any other differences.

schroeder I do a hot wash with distilled vinegar once a week/fortnight so hopefully that will combat the problems with smell & slime??

What do you mean learnt your cost? Did the machine ruin some clothing or block plumbing or machine broke?

Nah it just stank! Was being a bit dramatic, I suppose Wink Blush

It's not bleach that's the problem in non colour care detergents, it's the optical brighteners.
They will slowly change the colour of your coloured clothes, and if you have anything cream it will get whiter and whiter.
It's in products which makes your wash 'whiter than white', like Daz for example.
That's why it's best to use the colour care ones.

Stops dark t-shirts and sweatshirts greying and developing mysterious grease spots. Always use coloured washing powder, white one is the optional one if you can't be arsed with having two.

My family can't use coloured washing powder because bio irritated our sensitive flower skin. I use ecover or surcare.
