e cloth and water

CarGirl · 15/04/2011 20:02

special extra fine glass e coth - teeny tiny bit damp only.

ellangirl · 15/04/2011 20:03

definitely e-cloth (microfibre- lakeland sell good ones), just make sure you keep a different one for windows than dusting!

Carrotsandcelery · 15/04/2011 20:06

How did you use the vinegar?

I dilute white vinegar with very warm water, dip a cloth in it and wash the mirror. Then I dry the mirror with a pad of newspaper. Not a smear or streak in sight and cheap as (excuse the pun) chips.

Decorhate · 15/04/2011 20:16

I once worked as a chambermaid & we were taught to use the towels we were changing to clean the mirrors - wet a corner of the towel, moisten the mirror and then use the dry part of the towel to dry it.

However, I now generally use Nilglass from Lakeland for windows & mirrors

lucyspangle · 15/04/2011 20:20

Think I need to go to Lakeland

I may have used the vinegar wrongly made up a solution and sprayed it on

Have tried the newspapers also but scared they would scratch my mirror so didn't rub too hard

Aaaargh I am such a domestic no hoper!!!

Hot soapy water and a dry cloth to polish. I use washing up liquid.

My mil told me what to do. There's not much she doesn't know about housework.

purepurple · 16/04/2011 09:34

I also use washing up liquid in hot water. Rinse with cold water and then polish. Job done.
washing up liquid works for a lot of things. You can use it neat for stubborn marks and it doesn't smell overpowering.

linspins · 16/04/2011 13:26

Absolutely an e-cloth. After finding out about them on mumsnet, I am such a convert. They keep our mirrors (and windows, and tiles etc) so shiny and clean without a trace of smear. I love e-cloths and am now on a crusade to spread the word!! [embarrassed]
They are a bit expensive to buy but last forever and you save on cleaning stuff.

Why would you not use Windex? Confused

Seriously, it's the product of five hundred years of Western scientific inquiry, of industrial chemists experimenting and refining and tweaking until they arrived at the perfect window-cleaning formula. It has it all - ammonia without the ammonia (or vinegar) smell, plus just the right amount of surfactants, all in one handy spray bottle... um, is it just me? Seems wilfully daft NOT to use it.

Jdore · 16/04/2011 18:30

Squirt Mr Sheen, wipe with clean muslin cloth...job done Grin

AnnieLobePassoverSeder · 16/04/2011 20:22

Methylated spirits and kitchen towel or newspaper.

Personally I use vinegar, but then I like the smell.

GeneralissimoVonBobbington · 20/04/2011 14:38

Nilglass (from Lakeland) and a j cloth or even kitchen roll. Not a smear in sight. Used by double glazing companies to keep their samples clean.

Bunbaker · 20/04/2011 20:13

This really does work, and not a chemical in sight.

Melfish · 20/04/2011 23:30

Windolene spray rubbed off with newspaper. I find the daily mail the best as it doesn't leave print on your hands.

ruddynorah · 20/04/2011 23:35

microfibre cloth plus water.

CointreauVersial · 20/04/2011 23:38

Windex and an e-cloth (a clean one - chuck in the washing machine regularly).

Not a smear in sight.

Windex also perfect for gloss kitchen cabinets.

superv1xen · 21/04/2011 15:52

i find mr sheen and an old t shirt does it best.

gillybean2 · 21/04/2011 15:58

Windex and newspaper used here when I can be bothered to wash windows.
Was taught to use newspaper to dry it off when I had a saturday job in a bakery where we had to clean all the glass shelves in the display cabinet. The owner could tell if you hadn't!
Has to be black and white printed though, not a colour one.
