90 degree wash to clean machine - does it have to be empty?

Sorry, probably a silly question: if I'm going to run a 90 degree wash to give the machine a bit of a clean and maintain, does the drum need to be empty, or can I bung a few dishcloths etc in with it? and do I put powder in too or just leave the hot water to do the trick? thanks.

Rushed off to do 90 wash & realised that I had a load of washed clothes in there I had totally forgotten about! aargh! Blush

Piglet that was really interesting. I don't have any sludge or grime build up on the machine and I always use less than half the stated recommended amount of laundry detergent. I wonder if that is why? I'm really tight and am certain there is a laundry powder conspiracy to make us all use way, way more than is really needed Grin

I always leave the door open too, maybe now I will leave open the drawer too. That is the only part that gets yucky on my machine.

I leave the drawer open too, GandT - still gets black & slimy inside (but not as quickly as if it was shut... Grin)

I've used this before and it works well

GandTwithLime · 15/04/2011 22:38

Ponders thanks, I'll probably not bother then!

If you use thick bleach it can get so foamy that foam escapes and crosses your floor which is exciting. Thin cheap bleach or white vinegar in your softener bit is good.

empty

Lovely and concise Celibin!

i have the moon and have had nothing but trouble with it. i can only do up to a 40 wash on it as the 60 wash will just keep going, i had to switch the machine off at the wall after 6 hours of it running. i also have problems with the mould i just cant get rid of it. i have a 18 month old and another one on the way i really don't want to use the machine but don't really have an other option. its ok for people to say just get rid of it and get a new one, but when you are really struggling with money thats a little hard to do.

Be careful with bleach as it will rot the rubber components of your machine (this came from a washing machine engineer).
