after rescuing mine from an £80 engineer visit today I have realised I do naff all to prolong it's life.
Do you do things to make it live longer/ work better?

What???

Don't really want to fork out for new one after less than 6 years.

Oh, ok then if you insist....... ;)

I remove the filter of the softener part of the drawer (mine was blue) which then creates a pool of water for the softner to be added to. This stops it getting gloopy (especially concentrates) and makes you use less too :)

Remove the drawer regularly to clean as it WILL be rank even if you dont put the powder in it. Toothbrush and some bleach will sort it.

Heres a tale for you of my obsessiveness keen-ness to keep mine spick and span:

I put mine on a boil wash the other day with washing up liquid inside. I did have a mountain of soap suds spewing out of the drawer as I forgot to add a towel or two Blush to keep them in check.
it does really need the teeniest tiniest drop of WUL for it do be less dramatic than I have described above. Oops!

I need to get out more.......

bubbles Thanks so so much for your advice. I will be following your advice next week once Ive got some soda crystals and some white vinegar.

Will also look online for my washing machine instructions so I can remove the filter.

Thank you Bubbles and Vintage. I'm going to tackle the filter and try out that hot wash. Great information shared.

I was told to run water only hot wash monthly too Soda crystals sound good. My last washer lasted 15 years with 2 small repairs but repairman told me they do not make them to last any more . Website Washerhelp explains why. Hotpoint give 5 year parts guarantee if you register machine with them I always buy my appliances in post Xmas sales My new washer was cheap in sales but only has 1200 spin so clothes a bit wet: get 1400/1600 spin as saves drying time If you have a lot of washing to do I would go for a more expensive sturdy one but only if 10 year guarantee
