Cleaning a loo - talk me through how you do it

Sorry about the tmi....

... But DH is pretty grim on the loo. He just seems to leave marks all down the sides, and along the pan under the water extending down the ubend. Also, specks and spots all over the porcelain. Too much rich food, or, I don't know. Vom.

Please talk me through your top tips of how you clean the loo. Am NOT a fan of toilet brushes standing by the side of the loo, because surely a good weekly clean with the right things should do the job??

To all those that have said that they use disinfectant wipes - can I suggest you only flush them if they say on the packet that they are flushable. BIL is a plumber and he says that quite a lot of blackages are down to those wipes.

Another one who cannot believe you clean up shit from another ADULT Shock

We only have one loo for 5 of us and no-one ever leaves it anything other than spotless.

Please please sort him out.

About loo brushes... I buy mine from Ikea, they are Dh7 each, which is about a quid. As they are cheap, you can replace them regularly.

Oh, and deliakate, I have four bathrooms in my apartment and I clean them every day. It takes 2 mins to clean the loo and the handbasin.

I think if my 6 yr old can clean the loo after he's used it then surely a grown man can?

washnomore · 09/04/2011 10:50

Jesus H Christ, I can't believe my eyes. Are you really, truly asking for advice on how to clean up your DH's shit? Holy cow, you should be glad you didn't post this on Feminism or MNHQ would look like this right now.

Seriously, this is insane. If he makes that much of a spattery, smeary mess and it's his own toilet anyway, he should be cleaning it up himself. What are you, his personal scrubber? Hmm

MarieFromStMoritz · 09/04/2011 11:52

If it's his own bathroom that nobody else uses, then I suggest you buy him all the stuff he needs (Harpic, disinfectant wipes, loo brush) then print off instructions and post them above the loo. Then leave him to it.

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 09/04/2011 12:07

Why isn't DH cleaning up his own mess????? My DH is fully trained to leave a spotless loo, he knows he will find the decree nisi will be next to the loo if he doesn't.

I can't believe in this day and age (and I not really a proper feminist) that you would consider this your job.

How can you bear to have sex with someone whose shit you have to clean.....

gregssausageroll · 10/04/2011 08:02

I use wipes. Antibacterial ones all over the toilet, cistern etc. Wear my bathroom rubber gloves and then toilet duck with brush down the loo for a good scrub.

Bleach it everynight before bed too and flush that away in the morning.

DH has IBS so his bowels can be bad. I have to have a brush which is replaced monthly.

Your husband sounds revolting! Why are you cleaning up after him as if he's a dog?!
