How do I stop the soap dispenser in my washing machine clogging up.

I've just cleaned it again, it's mucky with detergent. The fabric conditioner part also keeps blocking. I'm fairly stingy with detergents, I use liquids. I wash the machine on empty at 90 as per the manufacturer's recommendation less frequently than I should (every 2nd month or so) and I used white vinegar last time from a MN tip.

What else can I do? I've just removed it and cleaned both sides of it and the inside of the drawer that I could reach.

TIA

I remove mine and put it through the dishwasher along with other things like the shelves from the fridge etc

everything comes out like new!

Is the water pressure ok? Make sure the taps to the washing machine are fully open.

Biological detergent seems to make a black and mouldy residue in my experience. Try non-bio?

No more ideas now!

Use a bit of wire to poke up gently into the holes where the water comes out. We had our machine serviced last wk snd paid a fortune to be told this and to wash the dispenser with vinegar. He also said to use oust every 3 months. Plus once a month a 90degree wash using bleach.

I read on another thread that you should use arial every now & then as that contains bleach.

I use non-bio Ecover liquids & my detergent drawer is minging - will be putting it in the dishwasher later!!

How much bleach are you supposed to put in? Seems a bit Hmm for me to be "good" and use all these Eco detergents if I then need to stick a load of bleach in it every month!

I sometimes pour hot water from the kettle through mine. especially in winter the incoming water is too cold to dissolve the powder.
I do that when I do a hot wash anyway. I use ecover bio powder btw.

leave the drawer slightly open when not in use. the black mouldy bits don't grow anywhere near as fast as the drawer can dry out between uses rather than being a dark, wet environment all the time.

i use non-bio powder (sparingly) and no fabric conditioner as am allergic to lots of them. and a 40 degree wash for almost everything :)

Right. Am armed with a plan.

Water pressure checked (fine), and shall try non bio. I stuck a wooden barbeque skewer through the drawer yesterday to get out the gunk. Drawer now slightly open.

Fridge shelves shall be joining the soap dispenser in the dishwasher later this week. Shall remember hot water tip for the winter.

Thankyou all.
