Tell me about e-clothes, microfibre etc please

I'm beginning to feel that the way I clean is a bit 20th century given I just use dusters, bath scourer/sponge things, those white knitted dish clothes etc. Should I be using e-clothes instead? And is an e-cloth the sand as a microfibre one? And which ones do I need? Is a microfibre mop instead of a wet mop or instead of a broom? Basically I'm totally confused but am about to move house so feel its time to bring my cleaning into the 21st century.

Sorry if it should be "cloths" rather than "clothes". I can't remember which is correct in this instance (as opposed to when discussing garments) and don't know where the dictionary is.

I think e-cloths are made of microfibre. Microfibre cloths are great for cutting through grease and I use them on the cupboard doors in the kitchen especially the ones at the cooker.

E-cloth is a brand of microfibre cloth. There are much cheaper brands that do exactly the same thing. The idea is that the fibres of the cloth work with water only to gently wipe/scrub away dirt so you don;t need to use chemical cleaners thus saving money and the environment :)
The multi-purpose cloth by Deeply Clean is really good

and is £1.99 as opposed to £4.99 for an equivalent e-cloth and IMO is better at cleaning. If you only buy one thing to try I would start with this. I bought in Sainsbury's but you can also buy online.

They also make kitchen packs and bathroom packs which have a variety of cloths/pads for all purposes and are good value. Their ultra-gleam cloth is brilliant at drying shiny surfaces like glass or granite worktops after you've used the multi-purpose to clean, and it too is half the price of the e-cloth version.

The sort that look like airtex polo shirt material are far better than the thicker ones that look more like a flannel.

The cheapest ones I've found are a pack of 3 or 4 from Poundland.

JackieNo · 04/04/2011 20:13

Yes, they're very good, imo, for cleaning windows easily and with no streaks. Microfibre mops can be used dry for dusting, and wet for more thorough cleaning/washing.

IMO e cloths (the brand) are superior to many microfibre cloths (spontex I'm looking at you!) but my all time fave 'water only' cloth is Enjo. They are in a league of their own, it's quite breathtaking how well they clean with just a tiny amount of cold water (eg all those weird orange/brown splatters that get under your hob extracter hood are gone with the lightest of wipes of an enjo) I feel quite evangelical using them, and am prone to showing off their mindblowing cleaning capabilities when drunk Blush

You have converted me. I will go and get some tomorrow. Not using chemicals will be brilliant as DD likes to "help"

Farrow, I had to google enjo now I really want some, bloody mumsnet you led me down the roomba path last month. Now I am contemplating having enjo round to demo...I blame you...

TheWaterHorse · 04/04/2011 22:32

My cooker hood was covered with a thick layer of grease with dust on top, that I'd half-heartedly tried cleaning before with various kitchen cleaners and elbow grease but never got clean.

One day I was passing with a damp e-cloth (there was a reason for this, I don't just wander round with random cloths) and I gave the hood a very light wipe. The grease and dirt came off, just like that, with no effort at all.

I've been a convert ever since.

farrowandballs · 04/04/2011 23:33

sorry vanilla! i want an enjo demo too! at the moment i suffice with child's bathroom and kitchen enjo mitts i got for £3.50 each off ebay! (shhhh!) alas there are no reps in my area :(

spooktrain · 05/04/2011 10:37

the ecloth window cleaning "system" (ie 2 different cloths) is amazing, it really is. (also it was purchased for me by my dear mum - presumably attempting to rescue me from permanent slatternship - so I didn't have to raise any eyebrows about the cost). I too have been know to throw an impromptu demo to friends now and then, even when sober.

Fizzylemonade · 06/04/2011 08:05

e cloths feel like the little cloth you get with your glasses or sunglasses. I got my first one from lakeland 9 years ago and it is still going strong!

I use them for anything that needs to be shiny, so windows, front of the oven door, stainless steel hob. Nothing compares.

Microfibre are good but not as good.
