I need motivation

Help!!!!! Sorry for the long post, I guess Im looking for advice on motivation, but I guess Im also looking for somewhere to post about my house, where Im at now and where I get to (if anywhere). Its kind of a long story, but Im just trying to get it out there. Hope you dont mind.

I originally started my mission on Sunday. Ive known for a long time that my house is a mess and SOMETHING needs doing now, but I didnt know what.

I asked in AIBU and they suggested flylady. So on Sunday I joined the website, and made a list of what cleaning products to buy on Monday. Anyway Monday came I bought the products and shined my sink. I did some ironing and came up with a plan to get on top of the laundry so I can concentrate on a laundry routine and start to get my house tidy.

Anyway I need motivation to actually begin to make new routines. My laundry is getting there, was supposed to be doing some this afternoon, but after a large lunch I got tired and have been on here most of the afternoon. I work sat's, but on sunday I can do an hour ironing and be pretty much there Grin

So what about anything else? I really dont have any motivation at all other than I really want to get it sorted. Im a bit of a freak and dust and other mingingness (think things stuffed down the sofa, under the bed, in the nooks and crannys with bits of fluff on them) make me want to be sick. I am good at keeping on top of cleaning, but I need to start to organise the crap and get the house cleaned in the first place, but Im so not looking forward to getting in those minging corners that usually get ignored.

The problem started when we moved into our council house. The previous tenants were evicted and they made a mess of the house (apparently common in council evictees). The council only did the bare minimum to make it liveable in and have left it up to us to turn it from a horrible building into a home, so it wasnt nice to start with. TBH Ive never felt like this house is home and Ive been living here since 2005!!!!!!!!

Ive kind of got an idea where to start, but I suppose I dont know how. I dont think it helps that DH is at home (he's carer to DS who is Autistic) while I am currently looking for work and PG. He's good at cleaning, but not everyday. He's good at cleaning the kitchen and the front room, but he kinds of gives the impression he CBA to do anything else. I just need motivation, but I dont know what.

TBH Im not sure I understand why flylady tells us to do the things she does, why get dressed to lace up shoes (which I do 6 days a week anyway as Im out with school runs and work)? Whats this control journal thing? Does it really work for everybody or are we all different so different things will work for different people (like losing weight for example)?

Anyway Ive given up on my dream of winning the lottery, buying a nice house, getting it nicely decorated, buying some nice new furniture and only then moving in, so I need to sort this house out. Like it or not I am stuck here (no-one will want to move in this run-down house for a house swap, the council are VERY unlikely to move us as it is a 4 bedroom and the only chance I have of buying a house is by winning a lot of money).

Please help and sorry again for the long post.

I totally feel your pain. i have little to no motivation when it comes to cleaning. I have found tho that you really just need to get stuck in. Mentally visualise how good you will feel when you're house is tidy. Get black bags and just start binning things. BE RUTHLESS!!! start a room at a time.Write in a diary/calender what you plan to tackle and stick to it. For example..cupboard under stairs one day, wardrobe next day, dont overdo it as you will scunner yourself. Then make a list of things that have to be done every day and times to do them.I find flylady a bit ambitious with the timer etc- personally i doubt you can do much in 15 mins. My routine goes a bit like this-
I make sure i do a washing everyday-get dried and put away(this is hardest for me)
I give the bathroom a swipe and toilet clean the loo(or buy one of those bloo tablets)everyday
After kids in bed scoot round and collect all the toys in a basket and leave outside their door.
Once dinner is finished, tidy the kitchen before you get settled for the night. Its a pain in the arse once you get settled and so depressing to wake up to a dirty kitchen.
Thats it really for the daily stuff. hoover when you can be arsed!
Here's my weekly stuff- again i find my diary usefull to mark it out..
One day do the bathroom..proper clean..nooks and crannys
One day- a big dust( i use my hoover with a small attachment to avoid moving dust about)
One day- change the beds- i try and do this every week but my friends do it every two..up to you.
One day- do the floors..give everywhere a good hoover-wash floors etc.

My dp works really long hours and does nothing in the house- i cant really expect him to do much housework..the one thing i do ask is that he cleans up after himself(hang his coat up and put his shoes away..stuff like that)
The last thing you need is to clean up after someone else.
Sorry this is soooo long but the main thing i have in my head when im attempting to do housework is..JUST DO IT..it'll be over before you know it..
Hope this helps..
