I fancy trying new things.

Paneer

DaphneHeartsFred · 31/03/2011 21:05

Marmite.
Soy Sauce.
Ketchup.
Vanish.
Fluffy Duster Heads.

Should make an interesting concoction. I suggest a casserole.

Carrotsandcelery · 31/03/2011 21:08

We had tofu for the first time this week - was delicious here I recommend the ginger tofu recipe.

Lavitabellissima · 31/03/2011 21:09

Flower sprouts

I discovered them in M&S, a cross between a brussell sprout and curly kale. Yummy with Italian sausages.

FourFortyFour · 31/03/2011 21:11

Flower sprouts sound delicious.

Is paneer a cheese?

If it helps I am going to Waitrose and have 2 adults and 3 small people to feed.

Yep - paneer is an Indian cheese. You cut it into cubes and fry it; then you can shove it in a curry. It's delicious.

Also, if you're going to Waitrose, you need Cornish Cruncher cheese and some Rick Stein oatcakes.

FourFortyFour · 31/03/2011 21:15

Is the CC cheese on the deli counter?

OP posts:
Othersideofthechannel · 31/03/2011 21:15

Jerusalem artichoke

Carrotsandcelery · 31/03/2011 21:16

Paneer in a curry sauce (creamy Korman sort of one) with peas is delicious.

Katisha · 31/03/2011 21:16

Multiple tins of corned beef.

ColonelBrandonsBiggestGroupie · 31/03/2011 22:22

I have never eaten Jerusalem artichoke.

CC cheese just in the bog-standard cheese aisle.

Othersideofthechannel · 01/04/2011 05:51

JA best eaten in moderation (can cause flatulence).
Delia's carrot and artichoke soup is delicious.

Rillyrillygoodlooking · 01/04/2011 05:58

silver beet

popAwheelie · 01/04/2011 07:53

Fresh Pollack (the fish for recessionary times! I made a yummy fish curry)

Frozen Mackerel (another cheap fish full of Omega 3 - I made an Ottolenghi salsa to go over the top of them after grilling skin side up for 5 mins)

Irish Barmbrack bread (delicious raisin bread!)

Vermicelli noodles (99p a pack -a nice change from spaghetti/penne etc..)

Finally I am really fond of this cheddar cheese - so delicious....it has small crystals inside it so it has a bit of a crunch!

verysomething · 01/04/2011 17:13

Fresh Tilapia fillets (the fish of the future!)

Nandos hot peri peri marinade (getting through a bottle a week)

2 Chicks liquid eggwhites (in a carton! Yesss!)

Vegemite

Booze (don't mind if I do Wine)

LostInTransmogrification · 01/04/2011 17:17

Nice ham Smile

HannahHack · 01/04/2011 17:20

We are having chicory with our roast lamb on Sunday.

That's a bit different for us!

AnonymousBird · 01/04/2011 17:23

Shoulder of Lamb

Mmmm. Can't bloody wait!

Otherwise, a particularly dull/bog standard delivery (arriving in 45 minutes and counting!).

Shock at NZ cheddar popAwheelie!

HannahHack · 01/04/2011 17:24

Also, have a look at this thread which has people's shopping lists plus costs:

Jars of Lazy Garlic and Lazy Chilli - as the name implies, very lazy way of having garlic and chilli to hand to chuck into pasta, sauces, anything...
They also do Lazy Ginger, etc.
Whenever I buy fresh versions of these things I never use them up before they go off. With these jars, they keep in the fridge for a while.

FanillaFudge · 01/04/2011 17:28

64 tubs of Uneartherd mixed olives/tomatoes and mozzerella. They are 2 for £4 in Waitrose and I can't eat enough

MillsAndDoom · 01/04/2011 23:42

popawheelie's cheese is lovely, but if you fillings need rebuilding you may find yoursel flinching when the crystals get stuck

popAwheelie · 02/04/2011 16:30

@Anonymousbird

I know I know airmiles etc..

BUT I am a New Zealander, in fact Im from Hawkes Bay where that cheese is made.... albeit with an English partner and half english son....

so blame it on homesickness or patriotism?

What's wrong with NZ cheddar? You can buy Canadian cheddar in the UK.

If its to do with cheddar only being from the UK, they should have got the name protected like melton mowbray pies.

I am in NZ and haven't seen the fancy Hawke's Bay cheddar, must go and find it.

AnonymousBird · 03/04/2011 09:19

Nothing wrong with it, I am sure it is absolutely delicious.

Just that we have such amazing English cheddar and the air miles and all that.... . If we didn't have anything good here or it wasn't made or available, then maybe fair enough, but we need to support our local products and think of the environment.. just a bit!
