How can I stop my house smelling of cooking?

I have a (not very good) extractor over my hob but my house forever seems to smell of what we had for tea last night SadEnvy

I don't like glade plug ins etc. Any other suggestions.
I saw the rose thread btw, some good ideas there but this is more how to get rid of bad smells as much as introducing new ones!

Nice new ones btw - I love roses, I just re-read that and it sounded like I was saying roses were a bad smell Smile

Have you tried a new filter in the extractor?

Unless your fan is a proper extractor and filtered out doors ( many of them aren't) it will just recirculate the cooking smells - you need to keep a window open when you cook.

Light candles - you can get specific 'cook's candles' or just a bog standard one seems to do the trick.

If you are cooking fish - have a small bowl of vinegar by the hob - it absorbs/neeutralizes the smell.

Empty the bin every evening.

Just realised (after sympathising with another poster who spent ages posting and the op didn't return) that I didn't answer this!
Thanks for the advice, Valium (with your poor ankles!) - I do light candles but just regular ones.
Lemur - I'm trying to find out about the filter and if it needs changing but am not having any luck on t'interweb so I'm going to have to ring the manufacturer direct I think.
