DH gone to drop DSD off at school, then got DD preschool drop off later, and a toddler causing mayhem...

OMG! You know what I realised? It's the little things that add up to make a manky house, and I'm not sure where to start, because there are so many little things that are dirty...

Oh crap Confused

He's said not to worry but I am sooo embarrassed, what are some good things to do to create an appearance of non-disgustingness?

Vacuum everywhere very thoroughly, clean dirty glass (windows/mirrors/tables), plump all your sofa/armchair cushions. Presumably your DH's boss can be confined to the hall/sitting room/downstairs loo? Just make all those places tidy (get binbags and stuff all the trailing paraphernalia in them) and put clean towel/soap in the loo (and clean it very thoroughly inside and out with a good bleach cleaner, and clean the basin/taps).

Make sure there is a clear path for him to walk and washing up done if he will be going in kitchen.

compo · 23/03/2011 07:27

Make sure kitchen is pristine and lead him straight to there
and clean loo
why's he coming?

Clutter in bin bags and dumped in garage / car.

Baby wipes to freshen up surfaces.

Straighten cushions / plump sofas.

Open windows, bleach loo, collect dishes and throw in sink with soapy water. Fill washer and dryer with clothes. Now, start in kitchen.

Wash dishes. Wash surfaces. Give windows a wipe if they're marked. Collect toys and throw in kids room. Pile random papers in one place.

Then do bathroom. Clean everything and make sure you polish the taps and fittings until dry, makes a big difference. Clean mirror.

In living room, collect any junk and put in kids room or your bedroom. Hoover floor and seating. Damp cloth first if dusty. Hoover hall too and tidy shoes and coats etc.

By now it should be looking fairly presentable and any grubby things will stand out - you can then attend to them. Shut the bedroom doors!

I have a 2 bed and all that takes me about an hour if I set my mind to it. And I live in a hovel most of the time.

Right, DD dressed, DS changed and dressed. Have cleaned bathroom fittings (good tip!) and moved all laundry into our room (can't see floor now Blush got to take toys up now but will wait for DD to leave as she will kick up a fuss!

Doing tv now OMG the dust!!!

Btw the boss is coming because there is some restructure in the company (massive household name) but they can't meet at work as it has to be private and DH is off sick (prolapsed disc) anyway - Hoping to discuss his return to work.

My first job would be to bin bag all rubbish, agree with opening windows, washing up, wiping sides, hoovering everything else can be shoved in cupboards or bin bags to be sorted later dump in your room and sort later. Good luck!

LoveMyGirls · 23/03/2011 08:23

Use a damp cloth to dust because the dust sticks to it instead of flying round the room, just in case you hadnt already worked this out
