Hi, my partner of 6 years and I are currently looking to rent our first home, and I wanted realistic quotes of how much council tax, gas, electric, tv lisence, water bills etc is each month. I understand it will vary from month to month but I just wanted a rough idea so we can work out our finances.

There will only be the 2 of us living there, and we both work full time Monday - Saturday. We would mainly be using the oven, shower, my hairdryer and the tv each day then obviously the lights. My partner would have me walking round in the dark to keep the costs down!

All answers would be a great help, our rent will be around £550 pcm. Thank you

well council tax depends on the house, and the area you are living in. it's called bands, A is cheapest.

Gas, electric depends on what deal you have and what company you are with. Mine is around 40 for each for a house hold with 3 people in.

tv is £135 for a colour tv.

Water depends on where you live and how much you use. i live in the south west and pay the highest rates. i'm on a meter and we pay £50 per month. that's on a meter for three people two working adults and one pensioner.
sucks right!

there is also contents insurance, encase of fire ect. don't forget moving costs, phone and internet.

There's good advice on moneysavingexpert.com too. Lots of people who've put together realistic budgets, and lots of great help on there if you post for specific advice.

Try and enjoy it, as well as working out the money!!

Is the tv lisence £135 a month or annually? And is that for the house not per tv? Might be a daft questions but I'm not too sure how it all works.

Weve made a rough budget and rounded everything up so we know we have enough, then if it's less it's a bonus. Do you recommend paying by direct debit or can we have a card to pay it onto? As Ive heard you can do that at a post office and put extra money on if you have abit extra one week.

i've double checked on there website, it's gone up!

£145.50 per year, you can pay each month.

It's per house or per flat, but only up to 15 TV's.
any other questions just type TV license into a search engine.

we pay everything by monthly direct debit - tv license, gas/electric, council tax, phone/broadband, etc
