Broken washing machine-help

Our aged machine has died a death with a load of my stuff in, that I really need ASAP (DDs baby sleeping bag and spare cot sheet etc) it won't drain so the door won't unlock. Does anyone know how I can drain it and thus get my stuff back?

Also I am going to the laundoret later, would it be bad to put some whites in with the main wash even once? I have a few of DS's school shirts and a couple of bbaygrows but not enough to use one of the massive machines.

Pull it out from the wall a bit so you can get round the back; you should be able to see the drain hose. Undo it and make sure you have a bucket or a washing up bowl underneath ready to catch the water.

We always put whites in with colours Blush

Can you undo the filter at the bottom and drain it out that way? That is what I did - angled a plastic jug and opened and closed the filter to fill up the jug. Took ages but meant the utility room didn't flood.

If the non white stuff is colour fast then putting it in together should be fine.

If you can pull it out form the wall then drain from the back but if it's full of water it will be very difficult to get out! I feel your pain as mine had died too!

Thanks for the replies. I have tried moving it but I can't do it on my own and DP is working away at the moment. I am going to try and find someone who doesn't charge a call out fee to come and look at it as I doubt it is worth fixing.

But at least I can wash my clothes all together, I always do them seperately and my whites are still not particularly white!

do you have a filter behind a kick plate at the bottom of the front of the machine? I drained the drum bit by bit through the filter when ours was broken (it had a colour catcher sheet caught in the filter so draining it that way actually helped fix what was wrong with it!)

Ah a nice man came out within 20 minutes of me calling and fixed it for £45. It was bunged up with grass, hair and other assorted oomska. He didn't even mind too much when I sprayed him in theyes with kitchen cleaner Blush. It did mean after it taking all morning to get DD to sleep I had to chuck her in the pushchair to nip to the cash point which woke her up, so she only slept for about 20mins

Make sure you keep a note of the nice man in case you ever need him again. Oh the hours I have spent trawling through my mind trying to remember plumbers etc I would use again.
