My rug is dirty from my 'orrible children - it says it's 'Professional Clean Only' but I can't afford that.

It's 100% cotton so nowt fancy (so don't understand why it needs professional cleaning. Confused

How do I clean it? Help me before I end up chucking it in the bath with some fairy liquid! Grin

What type of rug is it exactly?

overmydeadbody · 11/03/2011 18:28

and where did you buy it and ho much did it cost?

Shitemum · 11/03/2011 18:28

Is it woven or pile? Pattern or plain?

DelicateFluffyBunny · 11/03/2011 18:30

There's different types?

Blush

What's my choices? Grin

It's from Laura Ashley and cost £80.
It's woven? I think. Well it's flat so not pile.

It has a pattern - lurvely embroidered flowers.

ah, embroidered.

A hand wash in the bathtub will be fine, but fairy liquid is a bugger to wahs out, I'd recommend using washing powder instead, already disolved in warm water if a powder.

overmydeadbody · 11/03/2011 18:35

Drying it will be a bugger.

DelicateFluffyBunny · 11/03/2011 18:36

Thank you, thank you!

My poor neglected rug has been rolled up and sat in a cupboard for about a year as I just didn't know what to do and for some reason didn't think to just ask on here. Grin

I'm off to run the bath.

What overmy said but dissolve the powder in warm water and then add cold water. Wash it in cold water. It might shrink a bit and you'll need to pull it back into shape to dry it. Try and dry it flat not hanging up.

Shitemum · 11/03/2011 18:37

Also the dye in the embroidery might run so maybe do a test first by wetting a bit of it and dabbing it with white cotton rag or tissues to see if any dye comes off. If it does you might have to forget hand washing it.

I'll just have to lay it out in my conservatory and hope for some nice weather to heat the room. I shall ignore the fact that we're due to get snow tomorrow. Mini heat wave must be coming my way...

Ahh, will do that first, thanks Shitemum.

You can help dry it by spinnning first in washing machine and then lay it over a drying rack or if you must hang it up hang it folded exactly in half and turn it over when it's half dry to avoid a crease.

Just wanted to come back and thank you both again. Rug is looking lovely and clean now! Grin. Still wet but I've just slung it over the handrail outside as it is finally dry and sunny.
