Serious mold problem in bedroom - tips on getting rid, please

My bedroom and en suite are open-plan, and despite not having an extractor fan, mold was never much of an issue until the bathroom window jammed shut for several months over the autumn/winter - and then it started building up.

I've cleared it periodically with neat bleach, but it's now back worse than ever - even now the window is fixed and opened wide during and after showering. Where the mold was once limited to the bathroom area, it is now growing up the wall by my bed, and there are flecks of it all over my bedroom ceiling, and around the bedroom window, and even on my bedstead.

I am now waking up in the morning wheezing and have a silly little cough at the start and end of the day that I wouldn't normally, so I realise it's now pretty bad; it's starting to affect my health. But more critically, DS sleeps in with me, and he shouldn't be breathing in all these spores. He seems fine at the moment, but I'm worrying.

Now the mold has spread so much, so quickly, how do I get rid of it? And how do I keep it at bay?

Once it's gone, I'm thinking I should do a morning condensation wipe-down, have a dehumidifier on every morning on timer, fit an extractor fan in the bathroom, and close the bathroom off from the bedroom if possible, and leave the windows slightly open all the time. Any other tips?

And really, how bad is it for you?

Thanks.

I would get the dehumidifier now to help get rid of the mold then have a wipe down of all the mold with that anti-mold stuff you can buy (the stuff that is made for the job seems to be better then bleach).

I'd keep both the bedroom and bathroom window open as much as you can and then use a shower in another part of the house until I had an extractor fan in there.

I had a bit of a mold thing in an old house we lived in, it was a complete PITA but I had to stop drying my hair in the bedroom as the mattress had damp spots (I was horrified!), luckily I caught it in time and just cut away the cover and cut out the mold bits.

Some molds can be very bad for your health, but apparently most are not (I panicked and phoned the environmental health department! I became a bit of a damp geek, very sad).

Also avoid drying any smalls or other things you might have hand washed in your en-suit. If by chance you do have damp in the mattress DON'T try add get rid of it using water, you'll make it worse.

Something like Grotbuster for getting rid of the mold in the bathroom (and really make sure you get every single last bit) then paint it with mold resistant paint. Definitely get an extractor fitted if you can (rather than leaving the window open, as this may be blowing it about).

We don't have a window or an extract in our bathroom, and loads used to build up on the ceilig, but the paint really seems to be helping.

I read recently that bio washing powder and bleach with a scower (sp). Then repaint is the best way.

We had this problem we seem to have resolved it. We washed the Walls with wickes fungicidal wash quite a few times making sure every bit of mould was gone Then after letting it dry we painted with mould resistant paint. We brought moisture traps washed everything that could be washed in bleach cleaned every surface with fungicidal wash. now we keep window open slightly as much as possible we have had none for 3 months. Also use a air purifier and ioniser regularly.
