LADYBIRDS

DELHI · 08/03/2011 12:01

we live in the country and have old-fashioned wood sash windows. They are currently infested with ladybirds. The ladybirds seem to gather in the gaps around the sash-boxes, I don't know of they're hibernating. Some seem to be dead, but then I'll see one walking or flying about. They seem to favour certain windows, all upstairs and I think, the ones that get the most sun.
Anyone else experienced this? What to do - my carpets are scattered with ex-ladybirds.
Thanks

Yes we have loads of them too - mostly in the bathrooms - really annoying! They seem to like toothpaste and crawl all over any that gets left on the sink (I mean microscopic amounts).

I live in london and have sash windows which are like ladybird hotels. They hibernate in there and come out when the weather warms up.

The rooms they like are our bedroom windows. My daughter is terrified of them and my cats are facinated by them.

we have had plenty over the winter - but modern house and upvc windows. I just let them be (apart from the one terrorising me last night which just had to go :) )

Hope they can't do any damage...

If the are the invasive Harlequin Ladybirds then be careful because they can bite!

Sadly this pest species has become very widespread. They also eat our native ladybirds - the feckers

Yup, unfortunately Purveyor is right. We had an infestation of Harlequin Ladybirds on our south-facing windows last year. It took weeks to get rid of them and they left horrible stains on the walls and curtains. I don't think our normal, old-fashioned ladybirds lived in windows, did they? I think they must be the Harlequin variety. I'm terrified of them ! Blush
