Art for homes

I want to get some more pictures to put up on the walls of our living areas. Obv it would be ideal to trawl around bric-a-brac/antique/junk type places and find things that way. But with a 19 month old and new baby on the way, that's pretty much impossible.

Can anyone recommend a good place to look for art to put up - originals prob out of price range right now, although I have found a couple of things in local art club's exhibitions. Does Heals or somewhere on Tot Court Road have gallery departments?

Any ideas welcome! THanks

I actually think John Lewis always have a good selection of art in all styles. I've never actually bought any art from them, but love to have a nosey when I'm in a John Lewis store!! Not all my taste - but looks like there's something for everyone.

Ebay or Etsy - lots of self-representing artists on both of those, so you'll get more individual things rather than the same Ikea canvases as a million other people....

Or if you're in London, you are just in time for the Affordable Art Fair - starting at £50, though admittedly a decent-sized picture is likely to be a bit more than that. Or if you are near any art schools or universities with an art department, their graduation shows are a good place to pick up interesting things for not very much.

check out ebay - I've bought some lovely original oils - if you bid carefully, you can get some real bargains.

Limited edition artist's prints from contemporary art galleries like Whitechapel, Serpentine, Ikon. Tate and V&A have some too. Nice way of supporting contemporary artists and getting something that is obviously not just IKEA art.

Try Outline Editions (in Soho, but also available online). Contemporary artist's editions, starting from £40. Really cool artwork - the kids love them for their bright colours, and adults for their graphic, modern feel. Seen lots of the artwork before at artfairs/exhibitions and its great to be able to afford something so up-to-date. Gallery staff very helpful too, they arranged framing and delivery. I was really impressed.
