Anyone else feel like they need a skip to declutter the house?!

I want to do a proper spring clean this year.
I've got so much clutter and need to get rid of it.
I think I've got myself into that ruthless frame of mind but I just need to action it.
Anyone doing the same?

Nope, I don't need a skip. I have an estate car! Spent all Friday morning with DH loading the car, driving to the tip or recycle place, then back home and load up again. Got almost everything!

valiumredhead · 06/03/2011 17:46

No - I am a ruthless declutterer and fill the car up and take it to the dump.

GypsyMoth · 06/03/2011 17:47

yes,i have mattresses, old fence etc to get rid of.

had skips previously and find i'm more ruthless this way

also, lone parent,so not much help to load/unload at the tip!

I actually do need a skip to declutter our house. My DH is committed to cramming every last cubic inch of it full of whatever shite he can lay his hands on. We have a 3-bed semi with a garage. The loft, garage, second bedroom, downstairs loo and entrance hall are filled to capacity - I'm talking floor to ceiling - with stuff that will come in handy one day. He has a bag of odd, grubby, bobbly horrible towelling sports socks that he collected from the changing rooms at the sports centre he used to manage (10 years ago), that he won't part with, in case one day he is challenged to a game of badminton. He won't throw away copies of Woman's Own his mother left here in 1997, in case they should prove to have some good articles in them. He has kept the keys to every car he has ever owned, the tickets for every film and concert he has ever seen, every birthday and Christmas card he has ever received, the receipt for virtually everything he has ever owned. On second thoughts, I don't need a skip- I need a shrink!!

Shaxx · 06/03/2011 18:17

Fetchezlavache that would drive me mad! Copies of Woman's Own?! Good grief. I feel for you.

I am binning tonnes of stuff now.
I've filled 3 bin bags full of toys and clothes from just the kids room today.

oh yes or gonna ring council to get it picked up

Good grief FetchezLaVache! My DH is a bit of a hoarder but not to that extent. I have persuaded him to part with several things (sadly not his Buffy the Vampire Slayer or wolf t-shirts) but if it were up to me we'd have far less stuff. When we moved 3.5 years ago I filled our Focus to the brim 3 or 4 times with stuff for the tip. But we've acquired so much more useless tat stuff which might come in handy since then. Just as much junk in the house but also a whole loft full :( We didn't even have a loft in the last house so my motto was that anything that was used so infrequently as to be kept in the loft was not needed and was therefore got rid of. (Horrible grammar there I know but you know what I mean...)

nikki1978 · 06/03/2011 18:29

No I am too obsessive about clearing out on a regular basis. If we were to clear out the loft however we would need about 5 skips! This is my parents house that they are renting and my mum is a sneaky horder. There are school books from everyone from my little brother to my gran up there. Tons of crap! Grin

nikki1978 · 06/03/2011 18:30

Sorry my parents are renting the house out to us I mean
