They'll shrink.

BooBooGlass · 06/03/2011 09:50

They'll shrivel and go out of shape. If it were me I'd tumble dry them on cool, but I'd check on them every once in a while. Or just sling them over a door to dry for a few days

gorionine · 06/03/2011 09:50

I do not know but I always hang my curtains back when still wet, they dry and look fine without drier or ironing.

BelleDameSansMerci · 06/03/2011 09:50

They will shrink.

chimchar · 06/03/2011 09:56

instructions said to allow 15% shrinkage. they are wayyyy too long, and too wide too, so shrinkage wont be a problem really unless they shrink to dolls house proportions!!

(disclaimer...they sound awful, but actually look ok!!)

thanks everyone.

I always machine wash on 40% my dry-clean only curtains and I always re-hang them straight from the washing machine. The weight of the moisture in them pulls the creases out especially if fully closed.

gorionine · 06/03/2011 10:01

Chimchar, if they are a mix of fabricas, they will not shrink evenly and you might end up with wavy curtains, be carefull.

NorbertDentressangle · 06/03/2011 10:02

Even if you say shrinkage isn't a problem, there isn't any guarantee that they'll shrink evenly so don't be tempted! The fabric might wrinkle up or distort.

gorionine · 06/03/2011 10:02

fabrics, not fabricas!

chimchar · 06/03/2011 10:36

Ahhhh. Shit! Ok. They are washing as we speak. I guess if I give them an extra spin I can hang them straight up.

I have bought some weighted string stuff and iron on hemming tape to do the hems. I suppose I'd better wait until they are dry before doing any cutting of fabric then?!

Really appreciate your help.
