Memory foam mattress toppers

I was wondering if anyone has used one of these before? I'm hoping to buy something that can be placed between my little one's beds (they share a room) and then stored safely underneath one of their beds when not in use. Both are under 5 and have the occasional night where they need a cuddle. It's happened twice this week and one night the 4 (!) of us were cramped in our bed and the second night, I slept in with DD in her bed. I thought that a memory foam mattress topper would do the trick and then DC's friends can sleep on it if and when they have sleepovers when they are older.

Poundstretchers are selling them for £25 quid in their sale at the moment, so I felt inspired to act!

Any feedback appreciated!

I don't think a mattress topper would be thick enough to use as a mattress. My dd has one on her bed and it is probably only 1 1/2inches deep. It makes her bed really comfy on top of her mattress. I think you should get a proper mattress.

How about one that you plug in and blow up? You might be able to get something from a camping shop if a blow up one is too big.

Thanks for the replies. A normal mattress would be too thick to shove back in under dc's beds, and I wanted something I could quickly pull out and sleep on should one of the dc need me in the night. I have an inflatable mattress that I use for camping and it makes such a racket!

Hi, what about one of those foam chair beds, easy to fold out and they are quite small, we used to have one (Argos I think) and it was brilliant when the kids were younger for sleepovers etc. HTH

Same as minx. Twas great until a Coke spilled & it was ne'er the same again. Also comfy enough for adults to pass out sleep on

Could you get one of the DCs one of those truckle beds - where you pull a lower bed out from underneath the main bed?

Although that probably wouldn't be a £25 solution.

Each of my boys has one of these in their rooms. although the matress is the same size as the one on the top bed and the bottom bed pops up to the same height as the top bed (if you let it) you can just pull the bottom one out and have about half (width)sticking out and resting just above the floor if you want to sleep on it. I got ours from M & Spencers ages ago. Will make a nice double bed (6ft across) if you want it too.

Ikea does trundle beds - very handy and not expensive.

I think it's rather a good idea. My folks bought these memory foam mattress toppers to go on top of some rather uncomfortable European mattresses (on bunk beds). My boys think they're great.

Even though they're not very thick, if you do put one on the floor for a child for a sleepover, it's not as though a child really sinks into a mattress much (as they're so light).

We have an old cot bed mattress under my sons bed for sleepovers, but it's not exactly small!!
