Do I REALLY have to use the dry cleaner for this?

I have a throw which is 100% cotton. It has a kind of waffly appearance. My son has just tipped hot chocolate all over it and I was about to bung it in the washing machine when I noticed the dry clean only label.

It isn't one of the throws I bought from Ikea for a tenner so I don't want to risk it, but 100% cotton to me doesn't sound like it might be ruined by a gentle wash. Any thoughts?

I would wash it.

some manufactureres put dry clean only on so that they can't be held responsible if you boil it and then claim you only washed it at 30.

Yes I would put in the machine too. Have done this several times with cotton dresses which were dry clean only, they came out fine.

I wash my cotton throws. The cotton is OK but the colours have faded a lot even though always done cool.

go for it! lowest temp and gentle cycle, what can go wrong with pure cotton?

Rinse the stain with some cool water first. Use liquid detergent if you have any. Use the gentlest cycle (I am v lucky as I have a "handwash" cycle on new machine) :)

I'd go carefully- we had one like that and it went all fluffy and crinkled in the machine.

Now we cant sit on with black trousers

I put loads of dry clean only stuff in the machine - on a cool wool/delicates wash they're fine.

Great, I'm going to give it go on a cool wash. Many thanks.
