what to do about so many smelly nappies

I have 3 children in nappies. ds1 has sn a toddler and a baby. Our flat has a strange layout and the entrance is through the kitchen. The kitchen bin is buy the front door this is where we put the nappies. I have out a croc odour bin in the bin and every so often I'll put some shake n vac/ bin freshener in there. We open the window there and if I know someone is coming I will throw the bin in the outside bin and spray but sometimes there is a lingering smell of pooh. which isn't so nice when people come unexpectedly. I cant take every dirty nappy to the outside bin as I would like, as the nature of DS SN means he is a flight risk (so if I am in and out all day I risk forgetting to lock the door which would be dangerous). So what I need is a product/ idea so that my kitchen doesn't smell.

tommee tippee nappy bin?

CeliaFate · 01/03/2011 13:25

I'd get this

staryeyed · 01/03/2011 13:29

Do they really keep the smells in? I always thought they were a bit of a gimmick.

I rate the tommee tippee nappy bin too - there was a thread on this the other day where some people weren't so keen, but about half of the posters loved theirs too. Surely worth a go given the circumstances! Often on offer in mothercare too.

pirateparty · 01/03/2011 13:31

In answer to your question - they aren't perfect but yes, as long as you change them regularly (which of course you have to otherwise you couldn't fit anything in them!) I have found that it does.

BlooCowWonders · 01/03/2011 14:08

are you tipping as much as you can down the loo? Or could you use liners (meant for reusables, but good for disposables too). Might be worth a try.

bibbitybobbityhat · 01/03/2011 14:10

Yes, shake the poo down the loo. Disposable liners really help with this.

Firawla · 01/03/2011 19:22

yes they do keep the smell in, better than other brands imo. it's definitely worth it not a gimmick

CameronCook · 01/03/2011 23:17

Best thing I found was flushing it down the loo - I do that with the cats poo from the litter tray tood

MooM00 · 02/03/2011 10:07

We have a mothercare nappy bucket which is designed for wet soaking, but i put the disposables in it and the lid fits really tightly. I also drop the actual poo down the loo if poss.

baabaapinksheep · 02/03/2011 20:55

I have this one and it's fine. As long as its emptied regularly it doesn't smell, I keep it in the DD's bedroom.

Well I bought the tommee tippee bin and it seems to be doing the trick so thanks very much.
