Votes please - should we keep our new memory mattress ?

I loved our old sprung mattress, super deep and comfy until it started sagging after only 6 years ( DH reckons it is because it has seen a lot of action sorry if TMI Blush)

So anyhow we tried loads of mattresses and DH was really taken with the Tempur memory foam one. I was less so primarily because of the £££ but we definitely needed a new mattress and we got it from Dreams so they have a 40 night exchange policy so thought we would give it a go.

We have had it for 4 nights now. I think its ok, seem to sleep well on it, but its not comfy to roll into and a bit uncomfortable to sit up and read, DH is ok with it but he thought he would love it.

Not sure if we could be bothered going through all the hassle of getting it exchanged, so wondering if we will grow to love it, also will it sag after a couple of years?

Sorry if good housekeeping isn't the right area for this, its not a section I frequent often

We had a proper sprung mattress from Dreams over 10 years ago. It was v. expensive but still half the price of John Lewis equivalent. We now have it on our spare room bed and my mother loves it when she visits as it gives her a welcome relief from her own memory foam mattress. Besides all the complaints listed here, she says she can hear her heartbeat echoing around the bed and it keeps her awake.

This is all very interesting - we will be needing a new mattress soon, and I also have a DH who likes the idea of anything new/expensive/gadgety so we were considering Tempur. Not sure I'm keen on backache, though, which hard mattresses always give me.

There is no substitute for visiting a bed showroom and spending a while test-driving the mattresses - that's how we ended up with our lovely current mattress. We are only replacing it because it got buggered in our house move and now has a huge hump on one side.

We've got this bed. Combination of pocket springs with a memory foam topping. I've tried every bed type and its wonderful. Got some bounce but also that sleeping on 'fudge' topping feeling too. Ours is just the same as it was when we got it a few years ago. Not as hot as just a memory foam bed either.

Ah thats two votes for the Sealy. I wasn't imagining it my back is getting twinges that I haven't had before, plus I'm having an unwelcome hint of what menopause will be like as wake up to hot because of the mattress in the morning, roll on the end of our 30 days !

Just an update for anyone who contributed or is interested in buying a Tempur bed.
As the weather has got a bit warmer my sleeping got worse as the mattress got very hot and I would wake up early and not be able to get back to sleep as I was too sweaty and uncomfortable

We managed to get swapped through Dreams and last night had our first night in our new Beethoven sprung mattress. Its mega £££ as can only get something of similar value or more expensive when replacing, but we got a good discount on it. Well it was lush, like sleeping on supportive air, but with a nice bit of bounce on it and much better for non sleeping bed related activities too Blush. I'm so delighted we managed to get changed.

We've got a sealy bed that combines memory foam and springs. It is truly the comfiest bed and has cured my bad back. I hate sleeping on other mattresses now.

I found our memory foam mattress way too hot....I used to wake up really sweatty. We have a pocket sprung one from Dreams which i love and DH finds too firm.
Glad you managed to get yours swapped OP!

We got a firm memory foam matress and for the first week i hated it, so uncomfy and my side was aching. Like OP i found it hard to sit up and read etc. We put up with it as DP has a bad back and he liked it, After a week it started to losen up a bit (if that makes sense) and now i love it. So much better than old matress and i wouldnt swap back.

Only had it 6 mths so dont know about sagging yet, ours is still firm
