What emergency supplies do you keep?

Lately I have been thinking about emergency supplies and being organised if certain events occurred.

Low level - buying de-icer and screenwash in October

...to ponder the more extreme stuff like, if there was an attack or food shortages for some reason. At present I have the paltry following items:

A torch in the kitchen cupboard
Cough and cold medicines
Blankets (currently used for snuggle time on sofa)

What do you keep or think you should keep, I mean what is reasonable?

DH always insists on buying up huge stocks of dishwasher salt to keep the drive free from ice in the winter and always has de-icer, screenwash, bulbs etc for the cars.

In the freezer I always keep a spare loaf of bread or two and have a cupboard full of tins / juice / milk in tetrapak dry goods and baking stuff - so much so we could probably survive on unusual combinations of food for a week or so.

I remember my parents having candles and matches in the kitchen and their bedroom - I'm a child of the 70s during the power cuts.

You do realise that this may stray into zombie plan territory don't you Wink

Enough to see us through a hurricane!

De-icer not required....

well there is always lots of alcohol in our house (people buy it for us, but we dont drink very often in the house)
my freezer is full of food and there is always some tins kicking around.

Oh well I had thought about the food stuff, but do you find yourseld having to rotate around a lot. I was thinking like packets of seeds and certain types of tools, water purification, is this me justbeing too extreme - as for booze I would loot tesco express (eek)

i always keep loads of bread flour and yeast in so i can make bread whenever we want some or if we run out (and so i can make nann bread or garlic dough balls if we decide to have curry, lasagne or spag boll i can wip them up in 30mins)
i also keep a good supply of normal flour, butter, sugar and eggs. i have 45 eggs in my frige at the moment Blush 16 bags of plain and SR flour, 8 big bags of bread flour, 25 packs of yeast. gosh now i do look like i am preparing for a disaster.
also my larder is full of tins (tomatoes etc) and packets of rice. i also have some pasta but tend to make my own (cheating with the pasta attachment on my kenwood)
i also have a freezer full of meat.
we also have chickens so i the summer we have plenty of eggs but i get them from the supermarket or farm shop at the moment.
we could survive for a month on my stores (except for the milk, fruit and veg) i usually have enough veg for a couple of weeks in the fridge if we were careful. there are six of us.
i think its because my dad used to stock pile food and we lived in the countryside and used to get snowed in and we were far from the supermarket.
also i always have a torch by the bed just incase we have a powercut, i live near a city now and rarely get them but as a child we used to get them when it snowed or was windy.

mellie - how would you manage without power? bread making could be quite tricky.
We are preparing for a complete kitchen rip out and so i've been running my stocks right down. Tbh it makes me feel nervous and I have a strong instinct to run out and get supplies! We tend to keep 2-3 weeks of food that we can cook with using only camping supplies (of which we have plenty) I also make sure that we have a similar amount of pet food in. We have an open fire so we can get some heat from that. Enough lighting again for about 2 weeks.
We keep a torch in the bathroom as we have a bit of a dodgy supply and it always seems to go out when dd is in the bath!
