DH gives me all the money he can, and I get child benefit, but I am clearly rubbish at keeping an eye on what I have left.

Doesnt insurance pay out for injections/blood

TBH I think you have more woories than "keeping an eye on what I have left"

Creditaction.org do a great budget planner.

What was stain? Maybe a solution could be found?

ImFab · 21/02/2011 20:51

DH has checked and they will pay out.

OP posts:
OADCB · 21/02/2011 20:52

Phew....maybe you could still stash some away?

babyapplejack · 21/02/2011 20:54

How badly marked is the uniform?

I send my kids in marked uniform Grin. One of the polo shirts that either child can wear (can you tell I don't care about sizing either!) has green paint on the shoulder.

Perhaps I just have no standards!

ImFab · 21/02/2011 20:55

I have made lots of lists about what I need to do as I have never really budgetted before. I just buy what we need and that is a ridiculous way to live.

You said you were having to really budget harder because of the amount your cat was going to cost each month... Confused

GypsyMoth · 21/02/2011 22:40

How come if it's all paid by insurance??? They dont pay out forever to they?

CameronCook · 21/02/2011 22:52

Shock at all these comments about your cat - for cat lovers they are a member of the family

ok quick fixes off the top of my head:

grab all the CDs / DVDs / games you have but don't use and send them off to music magpie

sign up to quidco for online shopping

menu plan ruthlessly - really helps you to only buy what you need and can be done to fit with special offers

So you're not as skint as you thought then.

BitOfFun · 21/02/2011 23:41

If the cat is that sick, it must be suffering- I would probably get it put down out of kindness.

jenandberry · 21/02/2011 23:43

What colour/size uniform FAB. My children recently changed school and they grow fast so I have lors going spare, some of it unused.

hellymelly · 21/02/2011 23:53

I am Shock Shock Shock at the posts about the puss.Surely a pet is for life, not just to get rid of when they prove rather more costly in old age.I'm glad you love your kitty op!

BunnyLebowski · 21/02/2011 23:59

If it's costing £100 a month to keep an animal alive (is it in a cryogenic chamber a la Walt Disney btw?) then isn't Mother Nature trying to tell you something?. I say this as a cat owner.

It's about the bigger picture. You just cannot be skint if you spend that much on an animal.

Wise up.

mamatomany · 22/02/2011 00:01

My best friend is a senior veterinary nurse and she sees animals kept alive for years for the owners benefit when the animal should have been allowed to pass away.
She's had to put two of her own dogs down but did it sooner rather than prolong the agony.

AimingForSerenity · 22/02/2011 00:07

Have you checked out PDSA vet clinics for the cat. I have never been to one but am told they are substantially cheaper than most vets.

nickschick · 22/02/2011 00:19

Please stop.

Fab made a comment and has explained it away ....the initial outlay has to come from them and the insurance pays them back.

Even the most budgety of budgets can get caught short.

She loves the cat -the cat is insured the money is a short term thing until the insurance pays out.

Meanwhile she knows she needs to try and budget a bit better to allow for unexpected things.

not1not2 · 22/02/2011 00:27

ds has just marked a new pair of trousers with oil from a bulldozer (don't ask) he'll be wearing them until they are too small!

Yes, cat64, that would. I already do that to pay for Christmas but there isn't really any money left at the end of the month but I am sure I could save some.

The cat is not in any pain. I have had a long detailed conversation with the vet and have asked that they tell me when the time has come to have her put to sleep. I know my cat is still having a great life and I will not put her down because she has developed an illness that means she will cost us more money each month Shock.
I have checked and we will get 80% of the costs back.

OP posts:
AmandaCooper · 22/02/2011 08:14

OMG can the clamouring for the cat's blood please stop! OP's cat should not be put to sleep due to temporary money worries and there is no reason whatsoever to think that it is suffering. Is it full moon or something?

IsItMeOr · 22/02/2011 09:32

OP - that's good news on the cat, although Confused at the posters who seem to think money is irrelevant in considering whether you can continue to keep a pet. Yes, a pet is for life, but circumstances change beyond what you could have anticipated sometimes.

I am a cat lover and have a cat as a member of our family, btw, so don't say that lightly.

Hope you are able to put the good advice you've received on budgeting into action.

CrazyHorse · 22/02/2011 09:44

Eh? Where is the original bit about the cat? Confused I've searched the thread but there is nothing about a cat, only unexpected bills. Weird.

eddiemccready · 22/02/2011 09:52

We live in the country, cats dont cost money here! There are 3 or so running around here.

ImFab · 22/02/2011 10:30

Crazy It is in my 19.17 post.

eddie How is that relevant? I live in the country too, my cat still has an illness that needs treating.

Anyway, this has gone weird like so many threads atm so I will say thank you to those who have given me ideas and will go and cuddle my well looked after cat.
