How many sets of bedding does one NEED?

COCKadoodledooo · 21/02/2011 12:27

As title really. Single bed for ds1, cotbed for ds2, kingsize for us and sofabed that is used very rarely.

Ds1 has 3 sets, ds2 is still in a grobag so just needs bottom sheets.

I'm thinking 3 sets ought to be sufficient for us/the sofa bed too? Only I'm having a declutter and appear to have accumulated millions of pillowcases, about 8 duvet covers and a similar number of sheets, possibly more. I can get rid of some right?

have just de-cluttered we now have 2x king sets for dh and i (i intend to chuck one and buy two new ones which make three)
dd has 3x sets and a throw
ds and dss have 5x between them and 2x thows
though i have just reasised i have my dad coming over this year to stay so i need to but an extra duvet and pillows and a guest set hope that helps i change the sheets twice a week so i think it helps that every one has three sets or there abouts

My rule is for a bed used daily you need a sheet/ set to use now and a spare. A spare bed needs one set only.
I'm getting rid of 3 sets that have seen much better days. Think there's a fabric recycling bin at supermarket.
My linen chooses is getting tidier .... Slowly! :)

two per bed so that you can wash and dry in peace and not be stressed about getting them back on the bed that evening.

however, its nice to be able to vary what you put on the bed. ten years after we got married, dh had a bit of a breakdown in the debenhams sale and came back with hundreds of pounds worth of king size bedding at a fraction of its price. I was rather annoyed as we had received so much at our wedding, that it was still going strong. But, its nice to use different stuff.

I only have one duvet cover Blush for our bed (6ft) - just means I have to wash and dry it on the same day Grin. Have two sheets.

DS has four sets and I have two sets for spare 5ft bed.

I seriously decluttered a few years ago - now moving to a house with no airing cupboard - not sure where to store bedlinen - any useful ideas?

soppypreggyloon · 21/02/2011 12:42

Oh and I change bed weekly- or if there is an emergency!

blueberryboybaitonSafari · 21/02/2011 12:42

3 sets of each, 1 on, 1 in the wash and one for just in case - we have 3 for each person's bed.

babyapplejack · 21/02/2011 12:49

Depends - have you got a tumble drier? I only have one set per bed - because I can get it washed and dried quickly.

Jojay · 21/02/2011 12:54

2 sets per bed, but only one set for the spare bed that's hardly used, seems to do us fine.

I store bed linen in the room that it's used in, IYSWIM, so I don't keep it all in one place.

My boys share a room so theirs is in the bottom drawer of their chest of drawers. Ours is in a drawer in our wardrobe.

When we were using cots, I got a wheely plastic box thing that fitted under the cot, and it lived in that.

AboardtheAxiom · 21/02/2011 12:55

I have two, DS has two.

COCKadoodledooo · 21/02/2011 13:09

Cheers. Shall get chucking Grin

babyapplejack we have a washer dryer but the dryer is getting increasingly unreliable, so no guarantees they'd be dry same day. Will save 3 sets and bung the rest in the recycling.

Ragwort we've got a blanket box from Ikea. It was at the end of our bed, then we had a move around and now it's in the corner. Full. And with piles of crap excess towels and bedlinen balanced on the top. Hence the declutter.

we have 3 sets for each bed (one on the bed, one in the drawer, one in the wash) plus 2 sets (single) for visitors.
the bedding lives in the wardrobe of the person it belongs to.

LoveInAColdClimate · 22/02/2011 12:30

Ideally 3 sets per bed - one on the bed, then one set can be in the wash/drying but there is still another set available in case of accidents (even with adults, you can knock a glass of water everywhere or we had a recent food poisoning catastrophe Blush).

Capreece · 24/02/2011 11:36

We have 2 duvets and fitted sheets for our bed, 2 for the spare bed and 2 spare flat sheets for the summer when it's hot. I have extra pillow cases because I change those more often and when I have DCs (soon, hopefully) I would probably have 3 or 4 sets for them, because the likelihood of accidents and sickness is higher.

Worst ever bedding crisis was caused by DH getting swine flu - he was sweating his way through a padded mattress protector and I was changing the bedding every couple of hours. Thank God it was mild enough to hang things out. I live in terror of the same situation occurring!

Capreece · 24/02/2011 11:37

Oh yes - and I keep the ones ofr our bed in the drawer under that bed and the ones for the spare room in the chest of drawers in the spare room. makes it easier when changing linen if it's already to hand.

starfishmummy · 24/02/2011 11:47

Two king size sets for our bed. Two sets for the spare (this is because they used to be what we used when we had a double bed so not bought specially). Numerous for DS because he has SN and is incontinent. Lots of pillow cases because, well just because!!

Bonsoir · 24/02/2011 15:50

Very few.

We purposely bought identical beds/mattresses/pillows/duvets for the children so that sheets/duvet covers/pillow cases are interchangeable.

I would much rather have as little bedlinen as possible, use it intensively, and buy new, than several old sets!

Asinine · 24/02/2011 16:53

You can store it between mattress and divan on the relevant bed- also gives the effect of having ironed it when you haven't!
I often put on two pillow cases per pillow, stops pillows getting dirty in event of nose bleed and worse....

nannyl · 25/02/2011 10:18

i have 3 kingsize sets for our bed
2 i use all the time (and are identical) the other is an extra spare, you never know, if ill etc and get behind with washing / drying.

I dont have a spare king waterprrof sheet, but do have a spare mattress protector, that goes over waterproof but under the sheet

for the spare double we have 2 sets (1 on and 1 spare) again I normally have the same one on as it goes better with the room, but there is a spare if necessary.

for babies i think at least 4 cot sheets (for those nights and days where they just keep bing sick) and a few matress protectors too

Id have at least 3 sets of everything for a childs bed
