AGA owners - can I pick your collective brains for a moment?

I was hoping to find out how often (if ever) you've had to have your AGA repaired/maintained?

I'm trying to work out how cost effective the AGA service plan is. Can you tell me how often you've had to have repairs etc and how old your aga is please?

Our gas 4 oven is 7 years old so out of warranty, I have it serviced annually. When I phoned up to book my next service, I was overed a cover plan option of £15 per month to include an annual service and any emergency call out.

We've had to call someone out once when I managed to snap the main control knob whilst turning it off for cleaning. But don't know if that was just bad luck/freak event.

TIA

We've been here for over five years and never had anything go wrong. I once or twice had to pay for some new component as part of the service, but does your scheme cover that?

Definitely no emergency call outs!

i am an aga owner but oil. the service cost is probably a crucial factor here- mine was £260 or thereabouts including the boiler service. so the cost of hte monthly plan seems excessive to me. i havent owned one for 2 years yet (it is nearly 40 years old) and have had no cause to have an emergency call out. i personally wouldnt take a plan like this out and would 'self insure' but it depends how risk averse you are!

They said it covered parts and labour, its not actually THAT much more expensive than the service (£135) decisions decisions.

I've no idea how old my AGA is but I've been using it for 18 years and have never had a problem with it. It was originally solid fuel but at sometime in the dim and distant past was converted to oil. It has a yearly service which includes cleaning and replacing the wick. The same gentleman also services my boiler. I pay less than £135 pounds for the whole lot.

I have a 80 year old burning aga. It gets serviced every 8 months or so and that costs £60.I think we ve had to have an extra visit for problems about twice in ten years, but we just pay a normal hourly charge. Aftre all, it's not really an emergency visit, we have back up methods of cooking if necessary

gas aga. service annually, nothing else.
had oil aga for 6 years. Serviced 6 monthly, no problems except once when I forgot to service it and it coked up a couple of months later. Still didn't need any extra parts, just a good clean out....

I have it serviced once a year and it has only had a problem once in the last 10+ years, but I have an oil fired aga. Doesn't seem a very good deal to me. Personally I would stick with normal yearly service and take the risk that you have to call someone out and pay extra unless you have a problematic aga but doesn't sound like that.
