...what would you do, and what order would you do it in?

Thanks!

Depends how 'deep' a deep cleaning I was doing and which room it was. A bedroom or living room I would do as follows:

  • Take down curtains and wash, hang to dry
-Take off seat cushion covers etc. and wash, hang to dry
  • Dust ceilings and walls with a feather-type duster
  • Dry and wet-dust picture frames, ornaments, hard furniture and tops of skirting boards and plug sockets
  • Vacuum soft furniture (sofas etc.)
  • Clean window frames and windows
  • Vacuum floor and skirting boards
  • Remove as much furniture as possible and either mop the floor or shampoo and clean the carpet, leave to dry
  • If you have clutter, I would take it all out when you're taking the furniture out and sort through it while the floor is drying. Throw/shred/recycle/take to charity shop as appropriate.
  • Put the furniture back in.
  • Replace curtains and seat covers etc.

Maybe too obvious, but start at the top and work down :)

That said I would hoover at the start AND End, so

Hoover lightly
Dust the ceiling,
Detail clean any plug sockets/ light switches
Wash down the walls (CAREFULLY!!),
Scrub the lower level gloss
Wash the windows
Polish the brass work
Wash down the door
Hoover

and thats it really isnt it?

Of course it all depends whats in the room too- what sort of room is it?

Thanks, ladies. Over the next few weeks/months, I have a plan to do every room in the house. Probably a bit ambitious, but this house really needs it!!

start in one corner and work your way around the room. hoover last so all bits that end up on the floor dont need going over.

If it was me I would also be having a huge clearout when I am doing a big clean. That depends if you want/need that though!
