Not a fan of air fresheners.

Want it to smell nice but not like I've just cleaned, which I have ;-)

get someboots pillow spray (or linen spray - pillow is stronger) from the aromatherapy bit and spray on curtains and soft furnishings or carpet.. or flowers!

Scented candles?

Essential oils in water on saucers placed by radiators?

What kind of 'nice'' are you after?

DuplicitousBitch · 15/02/2011 09:15

open windows, burn some oil

PoledrathePissedOffFairy · 15/02/2011 09:18

Open the windows. Nothing smells better than fresh clean rooms!

kafkanightmare · 15/02/2011 09:21

Windows opened. I'm after light and airy but not too bathroom.

i'm interested in this as my house currently smells of haddock after DH's meal last night!

mousymouse · 15/02/2011 09:51

open the windows
bake bread/cake
scented candles

kafkanightmare · 15/02/2011 10:46

Right, house suitable 'aired'.

The only essential oil I have in the house is olbas oil which might not be what I'm after Wink

I have found a couple of random Space NK candles in my bathroom cabinet but they are all different flavours.

Will try one and see if it gives the requisite subtle hint.

If I were to get some oil to put in a burner, what would be a good one? They have some in our local sainsburys but I'm always a bit dubious (childhood trauma caused by 70s obsession with shake n vac and mother's move onto 80s pot pourri).

I think lemon or vanilla would be good. nothing too artifical as it might give the impression that you have something to hide.

kafkanightmare · 15/02/2011 11:16

Ooh, I do have vanilla extract in the cupboard.

Where can I put that :o

2 parts water, 1 part fabric conditioner (any smell will do but yellow lenor is particularly lovely) in a water spray bottle.

spray on radiators.

turn on heating.

a lovely fresh, yet subtle fragrance will permeate your home :)

also agree with posters who say to open windows (although tis a bit cold to do it for long at this time of year! :o )
