Wooden ironing board - are they any good?

I'm looking at this ironing board www.bettytwyford.com/dryinglaundry.html?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=25&category_id=8 and wondering if it's any good. My ironing board is up all the time in the sewing room/office as I tend to iron my work clothes as I need them and use it while sewing. I'm not an avid iron-er though - I avoid it if possible so I don't want to spend a small fortune, I just want something decent to look at. are wooden ironing surfaces ok? Does anyone know how stable this is?

I used to have an old lady neighbour, who had a wooden ironing board, she hated metal ones.
I'vwe never used a wooden one though, so no idea what they are like to use.

I need a new ironing board as mine has all of a sudden got wonky Hmm.

If you use it for sewing does it have a padded top? Just thought as when im making curtains i like to pin fabric to the board before i press it. Looks very nice but Shock at the price, bit out of my price range lol

Sorry im not helping am i lol

Yes, I've seen them with normal padded tops on them. I know they're not cheap but on par with the brabantia ones.

I've got a very old wooden one that my MIL gave us when DH & I first moved in together. I like it because it is lighter than the metal ones. I can't really seem to get the reflective covers to stay on for very long though.

I'd love one of these, actually. I might actually take to ironing, then! Shock

Pookamoo - could you just tighten the cover on by sewing it tighter?
