Title says it all Grin

Dh spotted a mouse behind our bookshelf today...we live in a small flat, I have no idea how it got it but here it is!

How do I get rid of it with v small children and a dog to keep safe?

One of those humane traps things? Where can I get 100 one on a Sunday?!

We have mice in the wall between the kitchen and bathroom, & underneath the bath. They scrabble away really loudly (maybe it's rats...). We have a sonic repeller (haha) & have put down poison, sticky glue, traps etc, blocked up holes with steel wool, expandable foam & polyfilla. We just can't get rid of them. Thinking about a cat now...

iska, they may be coming up the waste pipe from the drains outside because of a leaky pipe. They only need mm's. A good general builder would know how to fix this. It's an obvious problem in that scenario when they pop up from the toilet...

If you have a landlord, they are responsible for fixing it of course.

We have caught a mouse Shock he is going on the dog walk this morning to be released. I think we had better leave the traps down for a while longer :) I hope he doesn't have too many friends here!

get mice traps. fill with chocolate and put down after kids have gone to bed. you will hear them being traped( send hubby out to go and get!)
have you got road works going on around you at the moment? as this can be the cause of the problem

old fashioned trap with peanut butter. We live in the country, it's the only thing that seems to work.

SeaShellsDreamingOfSummer · 16/02/2011 06:51

I'll try chocolate next-we have only seen the one, so hopefully he was the one we caught last night!!

SeaShells, give up on the cheese or jam and go for the good stuff.... peanut butter or bacon (uncooked). Chocolate good but not as good as the PB/bacon. You need more than one trap out at a time, and place them where you would run if you were a mouse Wink - eg close to skirtings or kitchen cupboards

And have you blocked up any holes? Essential to do this if you're using humane traps! The night is a good time to find holes, wet your hand then go all round, seeking out draughts. Don't forget how tiny mice are - if you can poke a bit of a finger in there, a mouse can likely squeeze though with no problems!

NB unless it was a field mouse, VERY unlikely that there was just the one...

The traps have sainsburys' dark chocolate in them tonight :( spoilt mice Grin, though we have heard or seen anymore after last night's successful catch!
