What's the best washing powder??

I know, such an exciting topic for Saturday night!!

What brand do you find the best?
I've tried Asda's own and Surf. Neither get plain old mud out.
I'm fed up of either rewashing jeans or just wearing them as the dogs get me dirty within minutes anyway.

And as an aside, Powder, gel, tabs or liquitabs?

Using bio d liquid ( buy in bulk), stain remover as needed, and laundry bleach better than Ecover.
As for the mud, rub dogs down with dog towels.
Use def clothing for dog walking, seems the easy option

Hands down formil powder (the green biological one) miracle worker on school shirt stains. My washer doesn't have any musty horrid smell anymore either. I also use the formil liquid as a pre wash stain treatment. It's something like 1.89 a bottle

I buy Almat powder from Aldi now, both normal and colour versions (Which? magazine Best Buy). I add Vanish/Oxy stain powder for whites. Works better than anything I’ve used before. I only use liquid for delicates and wool now. There’s some good info here:

I'm happy with Tesco bio powder( Green box). I think the £4 ( or is it £3.50) box does 45 washes.

Cookerhood · 04/09/2021 17:47

I know the Lidl & Aldi ones do well in tests but the don't seem to dissolve in my drawer. I use big boxes of Ariel or Persil depending on which is an on offer at Booker!

Nsky · 04/09/2021 19:25

Fangsforthememory. Bio d liquid online or health food shops is cheaper than Ecover, uk made and more effective, do fragrance free too.
Hope that may help

I put my powder in the dosing cup in the drum. If I'm washing black clothes I do an extra ribse/water +
Dissolves much easier

If they're not too bad I use an EcoEgg instead f detergent .

I like Persil liquid or Ariel tabs, or Sainsbury’s own liquid if feeling frugal 😂

Are you sure it’s maybe just not your machine? We had an old cheap Bush one but recently upgraded to a lovely Samsung - can’t believe how much cleaner our clothes are!

Onandoff · 08/09/2021 22:07

Ecover bio smells divine and does a great job, equal in cleaning to person and Ariel but without the cheap stink.

SirChenjins · 08/09/2021 22:08

Persil, Daz, Ariel, Lidl or Aldi’s- all bio powders.

TwinsandTrifle · 08/09/2021 22:13

Reading with interest! Have always used Ariel liquitabs thinking priciest must be best, and now I know it's them leaving greasy splodges and bleach marks on my clothes Angry

LadyEloise1 · 08/09/2021 23:22

Thank you so much @FictionalCharacter

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 08/09/2021 23:46

Ariel cold wash gel

Lovealovestory · 09/09/2021 01:34

Tesco bio powder, green box. Wash at 20 for lightly soiled, 40 if there's been food spilt. 60 for actual muck.
Use it in cold water as a soak for blood for an hour or so. Or for brightening up whites.
Good for sorting smelly plug holes out too.

Theoldwoman · 09/09/2021 01:46

I use Trimat from Aldi. All stains come out first go, whites stay white!

userxx · 09/09/2021 06:49

The bio from Aldi, do you use this on colours or just whites ?

Ifailed · 09/09/2021 07:01

It's odd how most countries in the world manage to wash their clothes without the use of non-bio detergents.

SirChenjins · 09/09/2021 08:18

The bio from Aldi, do you use this on colours or just whites?

I use it on everything - it doesn’t seem to make a difference either way

Thank you, I'll try it next time, it's certainly cheaper than daz.

HelebethH · 09/09/2021 09:13

Any powder with a dessertspoon of washing soda crystals added. Shifts any stains with minimum effort as long as you use a 40deg or above wash.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 11/09/2021 08:14

Almat Coconut Crush (Aldi) is nice on bedsheeis , leaves a faint coconut scent .
I bought a small bottle of the liquid to try out , but I'll try the powder if I see it .
I added a scoop of Astonish as its bedding

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 17/09/2021 17:33

dessertspoon of washing soda crystals added

I bought some to try in my wash , it does have a slight surgical spirit smell but it soon goes .

Also bought some of the soap wash (liquid) . Back in the day ( 1960s/70s) my Mum would've used Dreft or Fairy soap flakes . Pure soap that was probably a blighter to dissolve and a 'mare to rinse out .
As the company I bought from doesn't do soap flakes (because it uses tallow) just a liquid , I thought give it a try
Not much smell , just blandy/soapy but I'll see how it works on delicates . And its fine for machine washing (visions of clouds of foam escaping , no thank you ).
