cleaning a laptop keypad

My laptop keypad is in dire need of a clean. It's a light colour so the dirt shows up more than on the darker ones.

It's so scuzzy, all inbetween the keys aswell as on them. What's the best stuff to use for this?

Thanks Smile

I have just bought some of that goo stuff that you squish onto your keyboard, got it on amazon. Not tried yet, but am looking forward to it in a weird way......also says you can use on remote controls etc or anything fiddly to clean.

Ooh! That sounds interesting. My phone/answer phone would be a likey candidate for that. I look forward to hearing how you got on. Was it expensive?

I bought a gadget from Currys that is a spray bottle with a bumpy sponge attached especially for keyboards. Like this

This is probably not recommended but has always worked for us. Electrical/Computer turned off. We use a not too wet, toilet antibacterial wipe, wipe along the keys with a flat hand back and forth. Remove and be astounded by the dirty hand print! Turn cloth over and cover index finger and wipe through the channels, repeat as necessary.

^ that is what I do . I am marvelling in the beauty that is a clean laptop once again.

I also turned the whole thing upside down and bang it lightly to get the worst of crumbs out but this isn't to be recommended as it might dislodge internal components.Confused

The top of the keys I tend to just wipe down with a bit of laptop cleaner (the kind you use for the screen) sprayed on to some kitchen roll (not directly onto the keys). All the dust/crumbs/unmentionable things in between the keys are best removed with a can of compressed air. Don't buy it from PC World, it's retardedly expensive there - Tesco do it cheaper, or at least my local one does.

I'm liking the antibacterial wipe idea. I may even get a cotton bud to get right into it. Mmm, satisfying just thinking about it.

Thanks ladies Smile

I hoover mine with the soft round brush and the suction set to minimum. Then I wipe it with a baby wipe, works a treat.
Of course I always unplug it and switch it off first.
Incidentally, the baby wipe treatment works well on house phone and remote controls as well.Smile

a credit card, or similar, with a wet wipe folded over will shimmy very nicely between the rows of keys.

shake the worst of the crumbs out first...a gently shimmy shake, hold key board vertically!

Chatelaine · 15/02/2011 17:07

Catsmamma - I like the idea of folding the wet wipe over a credit card, a good refinement, will do that.

I used a wipe and it's made a fantastic job of it! It was indeed very satisfying too.

Thankyou Smile
