Laundry detergents - what do you want?

Hi all!

I'm a final year Chemical Engineering student and I'm currently doing a project on product design. The task is to design a tablet for people to do laundry and in order to assess what people want from their laundry detergents, I thought I'd ask YOU! It'd be great if you could try and address the following, but any information's good information:

-what your washing usually consists of - how dirty is it? what are the clothes? who are they being washed for?

-how do you do your washing? - what machine do you use? what settings do you use? what product(s) do you use?

-what do you like/dislike about the product(s) you use

-how do you buy the product(s) you use - where do you buy them from? how do you get them home?

Washing is everything from dirty overalls, household items, baby clothes and delicates smalls.

The overall are most dirty they get soaked first. The clothes are for children and two adults.

I wash everything in a hotpoint aquaruis
I wash most things at 50c and bed clothes 60c. lightly soiled gets 30c.

I use eccover I like it sometimes it does not disperse in the drawer.

I buy from ocado delivery.

That's brilliant, thanks brookeslay!

Ok, I've got to go now, but if anyone else replies (please do - the more the better!) please don't be afraid to make seemingly small complaints about what you currently use - the more stuff I can find to refine and improve, the better!

I have a Miele washing machine and I use it every day for everything from muddy dog bedding and towels to childrens school uniform which can vary from muddy trousers to stained white shirts. I HATE non white whites.

I use mostly Ariel liquid gel and Persil liquid, chuck in some glo white / napisan and softener is Lenor. I buy it from Ocado or Costco in bulk.

For my daily wash (lightly soiled, or just worn for a little while) I do a 40 quick wash or if it heavier soiled a 30/40 degree longer wash.

I have a Miele too and I wash almost everything on 40 cotton cycle because I'm too clueless and idle to twiddle the knob Blush. I do do towels on 60 if I remember...

I wash normal clothes for DH, myself and DS (15mo), bedclothes, towels, occasionally cream removable sofa covers.

I use Persil non-bio tablets in the drawer, but have recently started using bio because non of DSs bibs were coming clean. I avoided bio because I presumed it would irritate skin - I've yet to use it on vests etc but might try it (none of us have particularly sensitive skin). I like the tablets because I'm messy and clumsy and would spill powder.

I also use Lenor fabric softener because I like the smell. I iron very little.

I find that poo stains (sorry!) and food stains are the bane of my life and have chucked quite a lot of stuff away due to staining.

I buy from Tesco and usually drive, but occasionally get deliveries.

I am allergic to something in aerial & bold so avoid these products. Because of that I tend to stick to the ones I know are OK and am VERY reluctant to try anything new. I use persil - coloured & bio usually but occasionally asda own. I prefer the liquid because I find it less messy than the powder and more economical than the tabs. I love lenor - the yellow one.
Most of my washing isn't really that dirty apart from my dh work shirts when he spils his dinner down the front! Anything containing tomato is usually the worst. Most stuff gets washed at 30 or 40 . I have an AEG washer dryer but the only thing that gets dried is my towels because I like them light and fluffy.
I do all my shopping in Asda because dh works for them and I get discount. I take the car to get my shopping

Meile washing machine. normal washing with some baby clothes . Quick wash at 40 unless I am boiling towels every couple of months. Persil non-bio liquid ( never use powder or tablets). Oxy-something for poo stains on baby vests and babygros.
